The Musée des Beaux-Arts de Nice in Nice, France at 33 av. des Baumettes was built in the former private mansion built in 1878 by the Ukrainian Princess, Elisabeth Vassilievna Kotschoubey. Named for the artist Jules Chéret who lived and worked in Nice during his final years, the museum opened as the "Palais des Arts Jules Chéret" on 7 January 1928.

The museum houses a collection of art spanning the past four centuries. There are paintings by Chéret and other artists who lived and worked on the French Riviera such as Gustav-Adolf Mossa (fr), who for many years was curator of the museum. The small museum has sculptures by Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux, François Rude, Michel de Tarnowsky and Auguste Rodin, plus ceramic pieces by Pablo Picasso. Some of the paintings are from:

  • Marie Bashkirtseff
  • Pierre Bonnard
  • Jan Brueghel the Elder
  • Bronzino
  • Benjamin Constant
  • Kees van Dongen
  • Raoul Dufy
  • Jean-Honoré Fragonard
  • Marie Laurencin
  • Luc-Olivier Merson
  • Claude Monet
  • Alfred Sisley
  • Édouard Vuillard

Very grand building in the western part of the city. Spacious galleries with an emphasis on lesser known artists who painted and lived on the Cote D'Azure. Sometimes there are free concerts in the gardens in the evening. Get there early to get a seat as they restrict admission numbers. What could be better than listening to great classical music at twilight in the open air on a warm summer evening?

Review is based on the fact that we did not get to see any of the exhibited art since our baby girl was not in a good mood. We asked if we could return the ticket or get back another day. The staff was not accommodating at all.

Nice museum to visit, but beware that there's no audioguides, and the information of the pieces are only in French. Besides, it's a rather small museum, which took 45 minutes to be completed, even after stopping in 95% of the pieces. Finally, there's a lack of work made by famous artists. Only a few Picasso sculptures. The highlight is the Van Loo dynasty room, with huge pieces.
 Not bad

Easy to get to. Galleries are well organised, with a variety of paintings and sculptures. Lovely building. 2 floors. Free ticket to residents of the Nice area.

Loved it! It is quiet. No tourist. Also there is a cat roaming around

Interesting enough art, but not much information on it - limited info was only in French. €10 per person, a little pricey. Website is awful

Very nice ride in the NICE 1920s the museum is almost in the state beautiful architecture, a few beautiful paintings lack a bit of maintenance but it may be that it would hurt the charm of this museum

This museum is the heir to the 1st museum formed from the deposits of the State desired by Napoleon III. Installed in 1928 in a sumptuous villa, the collections cover more than 5 centuries.

Did you know that this building was originally built for the Ukrainian Princess? Don’t forget to stop at Rodin’s gem sculpture “The Kiss”.

Nice’s Beaux-Arts Museum, one of the city's best kept little secrets, now boasts a unique masterpiece by Bronzino, the Crucified Christ. Well worth a visit in our opinion!
