Hotel Gion Misen in Kyoto

Thankfully only have one night here. Haven't finished out stay yet and this has been the worst hotel we've stayed in during our time in Japan. Damaged power outlets, flickering lights, water damage on roof, and to top it all off - being able to hear a conference happening with lots of clapping and laughter in the common area. We're on the first floor, we asked reception how long this conference is planned to go for and he seemed confused about what was going on. So we asked if we could be moved to another room that's not on the first floor and he said he's not sure. Hopefully they quieten down soon so we can sleep and be out of this hotel.

Update: they've quietened down but we're now out of toilet paper in our room. There's a little note saying they're trying to preserve toilet paper which is fair enough. But please leave an extra roll in the room since we were only given about 1/4 of a roll so ran out quite quickly. Luckily reception was still there to give us a new roll. Seriously how is this hotel 4 stars??

Update #2: this won't be the last update I'm sure...our pillows are literally filled with feathers so they're spiky! What is this? My husband got pricked by his pillow. Also the light switch in the middle of the bed (weird enough but let's skip that) has 2 big switches. We worked out that they're meant to control the reading lights on either side of the bed...they do not, they make them flash if they're off sometimes as if it's a spark.

Update #3: forgot to mention the reception said we're welcome to help ourselves to everything in the fridge... It's 2 bottles of ginger ale and a large refillable bottle of water. I would have preferred sealed bottles of water. Also the wifi is really slow. I'm lucky my husband is using an esim here so I can hot spot off his phone and leave this review

Really bad experience at this hotel. The rooms on the first floor give directly on the common area so you will hear everything. One of the nights we stayed there, the staff organized a private party in the common area with people singing and clapping until very late. Are not there better places to organize a party than in front of guest rooms? Also wifi does not work so plan accordingly.
