Kyoto Shijo Takakura Hotel Grandereverie in Kyoto

Unfortunately, the hotel has deteriorated significantly. There are problems with damp and mold. It seems they're skimping on the air conditioning. Apparently, it doesn't get any more humid when the room is empty.

I had booked a family suite and had plenty of space. However, the bathroom is one floor below. This bathroom stinks and has damp damage. There are also small animals in it. The management was already aware of this. Since both family suites are affected, I had to move to a smaller room. They still charged me the same price. Most importantly, this room also had a smell consistent with a damp problem. In fact, I then saw that the air conditioner was completely covered in black mold.

I took a photo of it and showed it to reception, complaining very clearly. They blamed it on the humid weather. But that's a poor excuse. I spent two weeks traveling through southern Japan, staying in many hotels. All of them were impeccably clean, and the air conditioning systems were hygienic everywhere.

They apologized, but offered no compensation.

The fact that the room is only cleaned by 12:00 PM is also not ideal.

Unfortunately, there has been a significant drop in quality compared to my stay two years ago. The central location remains excellent. However, they must prevent damp damage and unpleasant odors. Both are unacceptable for this hotel, especially in Japan.
