Wayfarer Hotel Kyoto Shijo in Kyoto

My first impression was good. An Indian man who spoke perfect English came to the reception desk after I called. I filled out the information on a tablet and followed the directions. My room was on the 6th floor, right next to the elevator. Everything looked great, but then I started looking at the black hairs I'd left on the tatami mats and killed a fly. I went into the shower, filled the tub, washed myself, and started draining the water. The water came back through a hole in the bathroom floor. Remember, this is the 6th floor. I was scared, but fortunately, the water went where it should. I had to wait for it to drain completely because the water on the floor had bits of pipe debris in it, and I didn't want to step in it. If I had to give stars, I'd give three: one for the tatami mats (which was my preference for the room)—I slept well; two for the good air conditioning, which made the room warm; and three for the staff's English. If you take off 10 stars for the following negatives: 9-hair, 8-fly, 7-noise from the street, 6-window draft, 5-bathroom flooding, 4-toilet was loose, 3-dirty stains (women's) on the bed linen

I was told that the room I reserved was fully booked and could not be used. Kyoto was still crowded with foreigners, and the prices were rising at the time, and I had already paid in advance. The foreign staff at the front desk tried their best to explain things in Japanese, but I have never been told that the room I reserved was not available. They found an alternative room from the few remaining rooms and I was able to stay there. I also received an email from TripAdvisor about a refund, but I was confused and delayed checking, and the refund was not actually given. Then, when I checked out, the front desk charged me the room fee, and I paid it, but I mistook it for a refund from TripAdvisor. In the end, I still haven't received a refund from TripAdvisor. I'm currently inquiring about it, but I was charged twice. This is not a pleasant response for me.
