Kyoto, Higashiyamaku Ebisucho 159 (45 min from centre) 🧭 Map
The rooms are great fabulous size for Japan. Has a shower and bath in a room with hanging space for your washing as there is a washer dryer. We did not bother with the dryer part but having a washer was amazing. We stayed for 4 nights. The subway is a short walk there is a Lawsons store next door to get supplies if you wish. Walk to Gion about 20 minutes walk to modern Kyoto about 30 minutes Walk...
Room was super clean, well appointed, and in perfect order. Neighborhood is excellent for walking, eating, and very close to multiple subway and bus lines. 11/ 10 will stay again.
We had an excellent stay, room was extremely large, very clean and the bathroom was amazing!
For a 3 Star hotel, this place definitely exceeded our expectations! The amenities are all well stocked. The room is spacious with 4 super single beds. The room is clean and the shower room is fantastico!
Amenities - well stocked.
Service - the check in process was smooth with the FO Team being friendly and accommodating.
Location - within walking distance to our halal eateries, so its not a problem.
Area - Lawson is a must visit everyday.
The gorgeous hotel/apartment is situated in a quiet neighborhood but has plenty of fine restaurants nearby to enjoy. The apartment that we rented had a fully furnished kitchen fit for a professional chef… which we did utilized numerous times over the course of the week… There’s a metro station a couple of blocks away which is very convenient for visiting different parts of Kyoto, which we took advantage...

We stayed at Gion Kyoka in Kyoto in late January 2026 and had a wonderful experience. Highly recommend Room 202 — it features a spacious tatami area, a horigotatsu‑style dining table, and a full hinoki bath. The hotel is perfectly located in the heart of the historic Gion district, just steps from the Tatsumi Bridge and Yasaka Shrine, with plenty of restaurants and shops within walking distance. ...
The hotel facilities were excellent, and the rooms were spacious and decorated in a traditional Japanese style, making our trip to Japan very enjoyable. We booked all our hotels in Osaka and Kyoto for five days through Ctrip. Initially, we booked another hotel elsewhere, but there was a problem, so we immediately rebooked through Ctrip and successfully booked it again. Thanks to Ctrip, our family trip...
Advantages: clean, large space, good bedding, good service attitude, and daily bed service and towel change.
Disadvantages: The bathroom has no heating, the hot water is not hot enough, and you won’t want to take a bath in the winter... Room 101 is next to the counter and corridor outside, with poor sound insulation and a little lack of privacy. At this price, staying in a hotel is actually more comfortable...
Excellent location, room was super clean and comfortable.
スタッフの方が親切でした。部屋をリクエストさせていただいたのとても適切で快適でした。また部屋もきれいでした。
Good location just off the main strip close to bus routes to explore the areas. Really like the style of this hotel and rooms were decorated very nicely to be modern but with Japanese flair.

We booked family room and stayed all family for 4 days. It is very clean and specious room. Facilities enough. Hotel is quite and we could rest well. Location is great, one station from Kyoto station. Hotel close to public transportation and walk distended from center.
Loved this place. Best shower i have EVER taken. The water pressure was incredible. They had a full body shower system that completely relaxed me after a long day of walking and the ac was perfect on a hot night. Staff was very kind and the place was very clean. I would definitely stay here again.
A small hotel tucked away in an alley. We walk right by at first and didn't even see it. This hotel is clean, easy to navigate and doesn't have a huge amount of amenities. There's a washer dryer (500 yen total) on first floor with the vending machines. There's a tiny garden out front and that's it. Honestly, if you're in Kyoto you will be out exploring anyway. It's close enough to Gojo subway which...
Smaller rooms but very convenient location and decent pricing. Staff is decent at communication. Pros- location, held luggage for us on checkout day, provided soup for each morning. Cons- so hot in the rooms if someone showered, super small area with bathroom/entry. Does NOT do bag shipping for you (majority of hotels in Japan will ship your bags to your next destination, or you can do it yourself...
Great hotel, down a narrow alley way but hotel itself had a great atmosphere. Room was very nice and spacious, it came with quite a few amenities and food in the fridge.
Staff were friendly and it was a good location to move around Kyoto walking towards more central food and shopping areas.
Excellent environment! Very convenient as it is near to train station. We have 2 connecting rooms, really suitable for group travelers like us. Soundproof is very good too, we didn't heard any noise during our stay. Their staffs is very friendly and nice too!

We had an absolutely amazing three-night stay at Nishiyama Ryokan, and the entire experience exceeded our expectations. My partner and I had an incredible stay at Nishiyama Ryokan. The location of the ryokan was excellent: just a short walk from the Kyoto Gyoen National Garden (and Kyoto Imperial Palace), Nishiki market, Teramachi-dori, many yummy boulangeries, and multiple bus and subway lines. The facilities were great: the room was spacious, the futons were comfy; everything was clean and spotless; the daily public...
Loved that I stayed here! From checkin to checkout… everything was smooth. Welcomed with tea and a hot towel and someone personally escorted me to my room and explained everything. The onsen was great and so peaceful. Definitely get the Japanese breakfast- it’s so delicious and best way to start the day. Also enjoy the tea ceremony in the morning- very informative and very fun. It offers a wealth of traditional Japanese experiences, but is rather remote.
We stayed at Nishiyama Ryokan for one night, and it was a wonderful experience. The staff were extremely friendly and kind, and they made us feel very welcome.
We had a traditional Japanese-style breakfast. It was beautifully presented and truly reflected the spirit of omotenashi. The meal was delicate and refined.
We were also able to join the Sunday walking tour. Through this tour, we visited many...
This ryokan is steeped in tradition and they make sure all their guests get to partake of it too! In our 2 weeks moving around Japan, this was the only ryokan that actively held little cultural activities like tea ceremony, kembu (Japanese swordplay theatre), origami and local walking tours. This budget hotel, part of the same Banyan Tree group, has a very Japanese hotel style. There are only 12 rooms in total, with two rooms per floor. Location: Located 20 meters down a small alley from Shijo, it's very quiet despite being in a bustling area. It's very close to the subway and Arashiyama tram, within walking distance.
Cleanliness: On the day of check-in, the dressing table wasn't very...
It's really great! Convenient location, bus stop right outside, and a large supermarket just around the corner. The price is cheap, and the room is almost like a suite.
Needless to say, the environment and location are great. There is a bus stop right outside Shijo. The price-performance ratio of this hotel is amazing. This is the right hotel to stay in Kyoto!
Very cost-effective. The hotel does not have a laundry room, but there is a self-service laundry room not far away. It is rare for a hotel of this size in Japan. The location is also good.
The room was large and clean, the location was very convenient, and the hotel was easy to find. Recommended.

The room was beautiful, clean and staff were efficient and gracious.
Awesome experience staying here at Rinn Gion Kenninji! Nicely decorated room, great ambience and walking distance to main attractions in Kyoto. Highly recommend
The room was clean, tidy, and spacious, and even had a bathtub where you could relax after a long day! The location was also quite convenient, making it a great place for a family to stay, and you could also experience a Japanese style!
Wonderful stay for 4 of us, wife with teens. Hotel apartment next to temple, quiet area to walk about, yet restaurants within a block. Live the nearby ramen and udon places. The river a couple of blocks away was great for morning run. Waking distance to larger shopping districts across the river. Waking distance to larger sites and temples in our side of river. Great set up for our first visit to Kyoto
Good location and good service
The main advantage of this hotel is the location in the old parts of town, which means that you can walk to several of the attractions. For example, there was a great temple and museum right behind the hotel. Some of the rooms are very small though. I would recommend paying extra to get a little larger room otherwise you will feel like you’re in a boat cabin

We booked this hotel based on the recommendation of our daughter and so glad we stayed here. Our room is spacious, very clean, super comfortable and so new. The room was spotless and quiet. The bed was comfortable. The staff were professional and attentive. We couldn’t ask for more but thank you for the excellent service. Kudo to Mr. Roy and Royota.
Extremely satisfied! The room was clean and tidy, with high-quality amenities. We arrived quite late and arranged for self-check-in, which was quick and efficient! The hotel staff were very professional, and I would definitely choose to stay here again!
Awesome hotel very close to the shopping district in Kyoto. When our planned tour guide did not show up Ryo the manager helped us find another way to see Nara and Osaka. He even followed up with directions via WhatsApp. We are very very appreciative of his help
Comfortable and convenient home base for Kyoto

The hotel is a few minutes walk from Arashiyama Station which is very convenient. It is a very quiet area but across the Togetsu-kyo Bridge is the busy tourist area with shops and food. A wonderful, peaceful place to stay! Even our economy room was large and comfortable, and the public baths were immaculately clean. Even though it is not in the more “popular” areas of Kyoto, we found it very easy to navigate transit and found some great nearby restaurants and temples to visit.
We really enjoyed the ryokan. It was a wonderful opportunity to experience the atmosphere of a real Japanese home. Everything inside was very clean. This is a fantastic hotel, hard to find, but worth the effort. The room is Japanese-style, with a nice wooden bathtub and tatami flooring. The bed was incredibly soft and the largest I've ever had in my life, and it...
A really nice boutique hotel in a quiet neighbourhood, yet still easy to walk to many attractions or hop on a nearby train. The rooms are very large for Kyoto standards and the bathrooms are especially nice.
I was a bit disappointed with the spa experience. It’s a private dome on the roof, which is a nice idea, but there really isn’t much there to justify the additional ¥8,000 service charge.
Otherwise...

The place was clean, the environment was comfortable and quiet, and the children had a great time cooking.
Great hotel. Service was great. We booked the rooftop sauna one night... It was totally worth it. There's a dome with heated rocks you pour water over to get steamy. There's also a cold bath. We were switching back and forth between the two which felt great. It's got decent views of the city.

It should be a B&B, but it's a little different from what I imagined. From the outside, I thought it was a pub.
I stayed in this hotel a few years ago and visited it again. The king-size bed room is much smaller than the twin bed room. The minibar in the room is free but the drinks are not tasty. The overall decoration style of the hotel is very good.
I loved staying at this hotel! It had such a cool, funky vibe. The location is very convenient for seeing the sites but being out of the hustle and bustle when you want to relax. The staff was very friendly, and they have a fun bar in the hotel that I definitely recommend checking out if you stay. The hotel even decorated our room for our honeymoon. The room was very comfortable.

My favorite restaurant in Kyoto. Every time I travel to Kyoto, I will take my friends or family to this restaurant. It perfectly combines beautiful scenery and delicious food. While enjoying the traditional courtyard of Kyoto outside the window, you can also quietly enjoy the carefully cooked delicacies, and the dishes are presented one by one like works of art.
This is by far my favorite restaurant in Japan! Everything about it is just perfect – from the warm hospitality to the beautifully prepared dishes. The flavors are unforgettable, and every detail shows so much care and passion. The atmosphere is absolutely wonderful, making every visit feel special. Truly flawless, I couldn’t ask for anything more.

Yes, the traditional breakfast was, err, traditional and may require a degree of adventurousness for some. In...
We celebrated Christmas Eve dinner with the dining experience at Kikusui. The staff was very attentive and every diner sat at 15 minute increments so the sole attention was on you during your course- so interesting.
Food was good and not too much as is the case often with tasting menus

Otsu, 1-2-6, Chuo (in the centre) 🧭 Map
The hiking above Mii Dera temple was amazing. A lot of hiking options for outdoor enthusiasts. The Mii Dera temple is also not crowded and a joy to stroll around 20 minutes walk from hotel koo.
I stayed at the Chaya house which was absolutely stunning. The staff were incredibly friendly and a joy to speak with. Otsu is a smaller quiet town with lots of character and friendly residents. I highly recommend checking out the local Izakayas and cafes for an equally excellent experience.
I'm glad I came across this exceptional hotel while planning my trip. It's a stylish and unique hotspot. I wasn’t sure what to expect from Ōtsu, and still don't know completely, but this hotel was definitely a highlight. Warm welcome with tea and ice. The room had a beautiful design; a blend of retro '70s vibe and a traditional Japanese house, fully modernized. The breakfast was exceptional. Delicious...
We loved our stay at hotel koo. It was the perfect combination between japanese traditional house and modern scandinave touch. We felt so at peace in this room, a perfect moment of relaxation. Bed was really confortable and the room so big. The staff were super welcoming and it’s nice to have free homemade snacks and drinks. I definitely recommend this hotel to design lovers
My husband and my experience here was absolutely incredible! The facility in the main area and our room was wonderfully lovely and high quality. The staff were amazingly helpful and friendly. We celebrated my husband's birthday here and everything was perfect!
In 2 words: simply amazing. We stayed here for 1 night, perfect to get away from the hustle & bustle of the big cities. Within easy reach by public transportation from Kyoto (20min by train) or even Osaka, I would definitely recommend this place. The smaller city is quaint with some traditional parts. The nearby mountains, reachable with the cable car, are beautiful & I’d definitely recommend seeing...

Kyoto, 672-6, Honkawaracho, Higashiyama-ku (60 min from centre) 🧭 Map
Very near Kyoto station. Access possible by walk. Check-in is easy with the qr code or the reservation number.
I was very satisfied with my stay at the hotel. The room was clean, tidy, and well-equipped. The bed was comfortable and the space was quiet, allowing for a very relaxing rest. All the facilities worked well, the bathroom was clean, and the hot water was stable.
Stayed here with my partner and really enjoyed it.
It’s about a 10–12 minute walk from Kyoto Station, and roughly 10 minutes to Pontocho and the main central area. Most major temples are only a 10–15 minute Uber ride away, so getting around was easy.
If you want to stay right in the absolute middle of everything, you might prefer somewhere more central. But for us, staying slightly local was perfect...
Very good location, very clean and very friendly staff. Would recommend staying here but the Laundry was kind of expensive it was 700 yen for a wash and dry 😞😞
The room was comfortable and clean. Although it's a bit far from the bustling city center, the surrounding area is quiet and perfect for rest. The room was fully equipped. The staff were also very friendly and patient during self-check-in. I highly recommend staying here!!!!!
Very nice Very big room and a very beautiful view The staff can speak english very well And everything is automatic, so it is very Convenient And it is not far from kyoto station the Location is very good
