The Estate of Abramtsevo is a state historical-artistic and literary Museum-reserve.
In 1843 the estate "Abramtsevo" was acquired by Russian writer Sergei Timofeevich Aksakov. During the life of the Aksakovs their house in Abramtsevo was visited by N. V. Gogol, I. S. Turgenev, M. S. Shchepkin, A. S. Khomyakov, Yu. F. Samarin, M. P. Pogodin, N. M. Zagoskin, and many other prominent representatives of literature and art of those years.
After the death of Sergei Aksakov estate was bought by Savva Ivanovich Mamontov — industrialist and philanthropist, who appreciated fine arts and music. During many years in the estate worked and rested prominent Russian artists I. E. Repin, V. I. Surikov, V. D. and E. D. Polenova, and A. V. M. Vasnetsov, M. A. Vrubel, I. I. Levitan, M. V. Nesterov, I. S. Ostroukhov, K. A. Korovin and many others. In 1878 artistic circle was formed in Abramtsevo.
