Skanes Family Resort in Monastir

Fifth stay here, and unfortunately the most disappointing one.

The room was extremely hot because the AC wasn’t working. We reported it and were basically told the hotel was “saving,” which isn’t acceptable when the room is boiling. On top of that, the hot water in the shower was a real issue. It would run hot for a few seconds, then suddenly turn extremely hot, followed by freezing cold, and then repeat. Not relaxing and honestly unsafe.

Housekeeping is the highlight. Clean rooms and a team that clearly does their job well.

Reception needs improvement. Staff name tags should be visible, and there’s no reason to speak so loudly that everyone in the lobby hears my room number and how much I need to pay. Guest privacy matters.

Breakfast was a letdown. First time I ever saw pork bacon openly served, which I didn’t appreciate, especially considering most guests are locals. Coffee quality has dropped badly. Using basic self-service machines like you’d find in a canteen is far below what’s expected. Apart from the hostess at the entrance, service was weak. Waiters were present but disengaged, making eye contact and still ignoring requests.

Pool area needs attention. The water was very cold, sunbeds were inconsistent, some with mattresses, some without, and no staff around to help. Guests had to move things themselves.

The garden around the pool was full of cigarette butts, likely due to no ashtrays. On top of that, the staff smoking area is right by the pool entrance, which isn’t a great first impression when you’re heading out to relax.

Big thanks to the security team at the entrance. Polite, professional, and welcoming every time.

I hope management takes these points seriously and improves, because this hotel can do much better.

Overall, the hotel is spacious and beautifully designed. The swimming pools are clean and large, with lovely green areas around, and the beach is clean. The restaurant is spacious, well-organized, and the food is delicious and varied.
However, I have some criticisms:

On the first day, I arrived at 4:00 PM but could not enter my room immediately. I had to wait at the reception for a long time, which was frustrating, and I was eventually given a different room, even though the room should have been ready by 12:00 PM.

The next day, the bathroom sink was clogged, and the phone was not working.

There were ants in the room.

There were no animations or activities for children.

Small hotel with all the facilities you need for a short stay. We had a duplex room which was perfect for us but that sofa bed is probably only sufficient for a child. The rooms were cleaned every day but a little annoyed when we arrived late at night finding only 1 toilet roll and 1 bottle of water for 5 people.
The restaurant was very clean and food plentiful but found over the last few days of our trip it got really busy and it was difficult to find seating. The food does vary but just got fed up of with the same desserts and some of the specials which just weren't so special.
The pools are clean and well maintained. The beach itself is ok but probably wouldn't wonder too far as the sight of rubbish all over isn't great. There is security at the beach day and night but anyone can just stroll over.
There isn't a lot to do outside the resort but can easily get a taxi outside the gates or walk across the road to catch the metro train which is never on time but very cheap and with perfectly working AC.
Personally did not like Tunisia and don't see any reason to visit . Every where you looked outside the resort you just saw rubbish and rubble piled up.
If you haven't been to an all inclusive resort before and don't want to leave the hotel this place is worth a go.
Must say well done to the cleaners and restaurant staff. The hotel is one of the cleanest I have visited but they need more staff in the restaurant during peak periods.
