St. Vladimir's monastery at the source of the Dnieper

Description

The construction of the temple in honor of the Holy Prince Vladimir at the source of the Dnieper was launched in 2010. The source of the Dnieper is near the village of Dudkino of Sychevka district of Smolensk region.

In the summer of 2010 Slavic procession on the Dnieper river was organized – from the source of the Dnieper to Kiev, on the territory of three Slavic countries: Russia, Belarus and Ukraine in honor of the 1022-th anniversary of the baptism of Russia and the 65th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic war. Vladimir temple was still under construction. In 2014, the source of the Dnieper, at the initiative of the regional authorities and with the blessing of his Holiness Patriarch Kirill began construction of the Vladimir monastery, completed in the summer of 2015, in 1000-anniversary of the repose of St. Prince Vladimir, the Baptist of Russia.

In 988 in waters of Dnepr in Kiev was the baptism of Russia.

Monastery of St. Vladimir includes:

  • Vladimir Church
  • communal housing
  • territory ennobled
  • the source with the font
  • housing for pilgrims
  • the belfry
  • the hotel

Walking through the monastery, past the belfry, the road will lead to the Dnieper source. A chapel was built at the source of the Dnieper river in 2004. The chapel has a memorial plaque in honor of the 350th anniversary of the reunification of Russia and Ukraine in 1654.
