Belarusian National Arts Museum in Minsk

Description

The National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus (Belarusian: Нацыянальны мастацкі музей Рэспублікі Беларусь) is a museum in Minsk, Belarus. It is the largest museum in the country. More than twenty seven thousand works of art – creating twenty miscellaneous collections and comprising two main representative ones: the one of national art and the other of monuments of art of the countries and nations of the world – can be found on exposition, at the branches of the Museum and its depositories.

History

The Museum’s official history begins on January, 24 in 1939 when under the Resolution of the Council of People's Commissars of Belarus the State Art Gallery has been created in Minsk.

At the beginning of 1941 the State Art Gallery’s funds and stocks had already numbered nearly 2711 art works out of which four hundred were on exhibition. A long-term work on the description and study of each monument as well as on the creation of the museum collection’s catalogue was to be done. The fate of the whole collection was tragically unfavorable during the first days of the Great Patriotic War. In a short time it would disappear without even leaving a trace.

After the War merely a small part of the works of art was returned, mainly those which before the War had been at the exhibitions in Russia. In spite of the postwar devastation, when Minsk lay in ruins, the Government of Belarus allocated considerable sums of money for purchasing works of art for the Gallery. It was already in August 1945 when the canvases by Boris Kustodiev, Vasily Polenov, Karl Briullov and Isaak Levitan were obtained.

The construction of the new building of the State Art Gallery with the ten spacious halls, occupying two floors and a large gallery, was finished in 1957. In those years the Museum’s collection had already reached the pre-war level and included about three thousand works of Russian, Soviet and Belarusian art.

The period of the 1970s and the early 1980s was a peak of the Museum’s exhibition activity. The collection of the Belarusian modern painting and graphic arts were taken from the Museum’s funds for exhibitions abroad.

Since 1993 the Museum has been called the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus.

Great place. Often bring interesting exhibitions from other places. Quite expensive but overall very decent.

The perfect place for art lovers. Contemporary art and history. Changing exhibitions. The place is not at once. You can go though every month.

The Museum is gorgeous, both inside and outside. As soon as I opened the heavy front door high are already gearing up for the contemplation of the beautiful paintings that this Museum is not enough!

There are several reasons why I like this museum a lot: quality of paintings, exhibition rooms are not overfilled with paintings and mainly in the upper floors there is a lot of light due to the interesting architecture of the building.

This museum have signs in English, this is one of the exceptions. The art ranges from the contemporary to the medieval with everything in between and a scattering of work from other parts of the world.

Have to say this is still an impressive museum of Belarus, also there are works by Belarusian artists.

It is very strange that in the national art Museum of the Republic of Belarus, national artists hang in the hallways (and very few of them), and the main part of the premises given under Shishkin, Aivazovsky, Repin with giant portraits of the Russian tsars! Like something humiliating, I think it should all be for the Belarusians.
It is not a national Museum, a branch of the Tretyakov gallery.

An interesting Museum whose exhibitions are on several floors. Quiet and peaceful place. Many of the exhibits. Of course I wanted more.

Nice quiet place, with two large expositions. First in old classical paintings. And updated constantly in the new part. Affordable prices on tours and tickets.

Beautiful and large building with collections from different eras and different levels of performance. Several large paintings by Aivazovsky. Visited the permanent exhibition. The impression of the salad: it is not clear on what basis the divided picture, a mixture of classics and little-known authors.
For those who are going to come with any size backpack, keep in mind that the logic of the guard, "backpack we can ruin priceless works of art" and have to be left in the cloakroom. To bulky womens bags and any other this is not true. Exactly like that picture in most cases is not protected and they can sneeze and Shine a flash. "And I do not think it is written so I shall," the response of the management of the hall on a request to speculate on this ban.

Incredible place with an indescribable atmosphere of creativity. It's been two days since the visit and I'm still impressed. A rich collection of paintings, it was impossible to put down, I regret that they had not discovered this national cultural treasure. Special thanks to the employees of the Museum, a cozy and quiet atmosphere.
