The source of the Moscow river
Description
Moscow-the river starts here, in a small swamp, formed by a tiny river Konoplyanka, on the slopes of Smolensk-Moscow upland.
12 km from its source the river flows into the lake Mikhalevskoe. Near Mozhaisk, before the dam, the river overflows in the Mozhaisk reservoir. From Mozhaysk to Zvenigorod river makes many bends with sharp turns. Further, from Zvenigorod, the slopes of the valley of the river become flat. Good environment, beauty of the river and the pine shores attracted to settle here. Along the river many cottage settlements of Rublevskoe. Rivers Rooza, Iskona and Istra flow into the river Moscow before the city of Moscow. Then, in the city, rivers Skhodnya, Setun and Yauza. After Moscow cool loops, the river enters the plain, where its bed is very windy. The floodplain is wide, with water meadows, here the Moscow river flows into the Oka river.
The total height difference from source to mouth is 155,5 m, the length of the river is about 500 kilometers.
The Power of the river is snow (61%), soil (27%) and rain (12%). The river had two times less volume of water until 1937, when the Canal of Moscow was built and Volga river flowed into Moscow river. A substantial part of the Volga water goes to the water consumption of the city, after cleaning it also dumped into the Moscow river. The Moscow river is navigable in the area from Moscow to the town of Kolomna. The ships go from Moscow into the Oka river, and via the Canal of Moscow to the Volga river.
