One of the oldest monastery's in Smolensk, 13th century
The monastery was established between 1210 and 1219 by Smolensk Bishop Ignatiy.
During the construction of the Smolensk fortress monastery was included in its borders. During the capture of Smolensk by the Poles in 1611 it was devastated.
In the middle of the 18th century the first stone building appeared in the monastery: in 1755 (according to other sources — in 1765) two-storey stone cathedral was built.
During the Patriotic war of 1812 the monastery was turned by the French into a military hospital.

During the Patriotic war of 1812 Avramievskie the monastery was badly damaged from enemy cores during the bombardment and storming of the city by the French. Still above the altar window of the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral stands out of the wall unexploded nucleus.
