Historical Museum of Smolensk is the oldest Museum, it was founded in 1888. The ancient history of the Smolensk land is combined in the Museum with exhibits of today: models of the world's first Vostok spacecraft, the first man in the world orbited around our planet on April 12 1961, the first cosmonaut in the world, burst into the story, was Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin born in the Smolensk region in the village of Klushino. In the lobby of the historical Museum the layout of the ancient city of Smolensk is shown, protected by a stone fortress. completed in 1602. Ancient legends say that the glorious city of Smolensk stands on seven hills.
