Chalets Porto Matrouh in Marsa Matruh

The hotel has definitely seen better days, the conditions are dire, a renovation is required. The rooms, despite being spacious were not very clean, not renovated, all the surfaces were sticky, the bed sheets smelled bad, there was either no hot water or no cold water (despite the staff trying to assist us and fix it) due to old infrastructure, broken boilers and not functioning pipes. Everything you touch is either broken or half broken. The view from the room is fantastic though, it’s nice to relax looking at the beautiful sea. The hotel doesn’t have direct access to the beach, a shuttle takes guests to a private beach which is very nice with umbrellas and chairs as well as lifeguards on duty who watch over the beach and react when needed. The hotel offers breakfasts and dinners, both nice. The chefs and managers of the restaurant as well as the waiters are doing a great job in serving and cleaning, the food is tasty and there is a lot of variety. There used to be many shops and restaurants on the hotel premises, now they are closed and empty. The pool area is well maintained. Some of the staff in the hotel speaks limited English, the rest do not. The hotel would benefit from cleaning, there is trash laying around in some areas. It’s a place to come for 1 or 2 nights on the way to Siwa, but not for a week long holiday.

The quality of rooms is very poor, compared to prices. The service is available but bad. Finnaly location is far away from center but the resort itself is well-equipped by almost every thing. Pools are dirty even with cleaning. Extremely crowded.
