Waterberg Guest Farm in Otjiwarongo

This was the first time I’ve ever been truly disappointed by an accommodation. While the bungalows are practical, they lack any real African charm. But several things just didn’t meet expectations: • There were no curtains, so there’s no privacy and you’re woken up at sunrise, whether you want to or not. The manager explained that some guests apparently like this, but it didn’t work for us. • There were no mosquito nets, so we spent the night battling bugs. The manager’s solution? Just spray them with insecticide. • After dinner, paths to the rooms aren’t lit, and since they’re rocky, it’s safer to use your phone’s torch. A few minor things were also annoying: • The toilet seat was patched together with tape. • Bottled water isn’t complimentary. • The ceiling fan barely cooled the room, even with the temperature at 35°C. The biggest issue was the number of insects in the room. The good thing, the team was kind and efficient When you look at reviews on Tripadvisor, you’ll notice the positive feedback is all old, while the negative reviews are recent. The owner only responds to the positive ones — never to any criticism. As for the Cheetah Conservation Fund activity, I wouldn’t recommend booking it through this lodge. It’s a two-hour round trip, and it’s actually much easier to visit the center first and then arrive at the lodge. Even better, there’s a lodge right next to the CCF. Bottom line: I wouldn’t recommend stopping here.
