The Estate Shakhmatovo. The house-Museum of poet Alexander Block
Description
State historical-literary and Museum-reserve of Alexander Block — the official name of the museum in the restored farmstead of the poet Alexander Block "Shakhmatovo". The estate is located in Solnechnogorsk district of the Moscow region, near the village of Tarakanovo, 22 km North from the town Solnechnogorsk in Tarakanovo highway.
The Museum was established in 1981, the territory is 307 hectares, comprising the manor Shakhmatovo and the village of Tarakanovo where Alexander Blok was married to Lubov Mendeleeva in the Church of the Archangel Michael.
The Manor Shakhmatovo was acquired by the grandfather of the Block Beketov in 1874. In Shakhmatovo the poet spent each summer from 1881 to 1916 and in his works "On the railway", "All this was, was, was" — mentioned Shakhmatovo area. Wooden manor house was rebuilt by Block on his own design in 1910. In 1921 the estate was burned by the peasants.
In Soviet times, before the creation of the Museum ravaged manor was a place of pilgrimage for admirers of the poet. The main house is restored only in 2001, since then there are guided tours and public events
