Museum "Town forge" in Smolensk
Description
The oldest civil building in the town, the Museum of blacksmith's craft
Museum "Town forge of XVII century" is located in the old forge, the oldest civil building of Smolensk. A small house with tiled roof was built in the late XVII or early XVIII century, it housed the city archives. In those days Smolensk was part of the Polish-Lithuenian Commonwealth and there was Polish archives. In 1785 the Polish archives was adapted into the forge. The forge has existed in this house until 1812, the building has survived several wars and, fortunately, was not destroyed.
In 1991 there was opened a Museum dedicated to the blacksmith trade, there are guided tours. Here are collected the goods from the XVI to the XIX century: tools, weapons, religious items. There are also items from the collection of Maria Tenisheva.
