Description

Kulikovo field - the site of the historic battle between the United forces of the Russian princes under the leadership of Moscow Prince Dmitry Donskoy with the army of the Golden Horde Mamai on 8 of September 1380 year ended with a crushing defeat of Mamai. This is one of the most significant battles in the history of Moscow, Donskoy massacre marked the beginning of the end yoke. The battle of Kulikovo took place between the rivers Don, Nepryadva and Krasivaya Mecha on the field, called Kulikovo. Currently refers to Kimovsky and Kurkinsky areas of the Tula region, an area of about 10 km2.

The memorial founded in 1965. It is a part of the State military-historical and natural Museum-reserve "Kulikovo field". The are church of St. Sergius of Radonezh the column-monument (1848-1850).

During the battle of Kulikovo there was situated the headquarters of Mamai here.

That's the original monument, gives spectators an idea how this place looked when Solzhenitsyn wrote Zakhar Kalita - just mentally add debris around and total atmosphere of devastation

Beautiful place. Be sure to visit all the sights: in the village of Monastyrshchino, the memorial on the Red hill, the new Museum complex. The opening of the core exhibition is scheduled for autumn 2016. Now you can visit the baby exhibition, exhibition hall, observation platform overlooking the battlefield.

From Tula to go too far, but it's worth it. Close to red hill (5-7 km), there are new and old Museum complexes - don't forget to visit.

Recommend. If you have the opportunity to go on the transport is great (a tour, even an individual don't have the time), My advice is: first go through the Museum with a guide (a group up to 5 persons - 500 rubles + entrance tickets) and then walk around the Museum on their own. A lot of interactive, educational games for children, attention, memory, etc. Many of the exhibits can be touched (made for people with visual impairment, but as a rule, everyone loves the tactile sensation). For children there is a separate complex, where we unfortunately did not get, but the stories are made all good
