August 28, 1828 in Yasnaya Polyana Krapivensky district, Tula province was born Leo Tolstoy, the greatest Russian writer. Here he lived most of his life and wrote major works, including "War and peace" and "Anna Karenina".
Yasnaya Polyana – Tolstoy family estate, established in the early nineteenth century by the writer's grandfather the Prince Nikolay Volkonsky.
Behind the towers is the main entrance walkway "Preshpect" and a Large pond, referred to in the works, diaries and letters of Leo Tolstoy.

- The Volkonsky house is the oldest stone building in Yasnaya Polyana. Volkonsky built it for his servants, then it had an economic purpose, today it's the administrative building of the Museum and not for visiting:

- The house of Leo Tolstoy, in which the writer lived for more than 50 years and wrote most of his works, remains as of 1910 (the last year of Tolstoy's life):

- The Kuzminskiy wing - building of school which established by Tolstoy id Yasnaya Polyana, and later a guest house; today it houses temporary exhibitions:

- Memorial stables, which currently contains about 30 horses, and a variety of outbuildings.
The main manor house of Volkonskiys, the birthplace of Leo Tolstoy, not preserved. It was sold for debts and were taken to the village of Dolgoe, where it stood for 15 years. The house was wooden:

В экспозицию музея входят подлинная обстановка усадьбы, личные вещи Л. Н. Толстого, его библиотека (22 000 книг). Обстановка в доме-музее Л. Н. Толстого оставлена такой же, какой её оставил сам писатель, навсегда покидая Ясную Поляну в 1910 году.
The exposition of the Museum includes authentic atmosphere of the estate, the personal belongings of Leo Tolstoy, his library (22,000 volumes). The decor in the house-Museum of Leo Tolstoy left the same as it was left by the writer himself, forever leaving Yasnaya Polyana in 1910.
