Hotell Zäta Longstay in Ostersund

If you like the smell of cigarettes in the hall, seeping in under the door of your room, then Zata is the place for you. There is a smoking terrace at one end of the hotel, at the top of the corridor. If smokers leave the terrace door open, their smoke blows into the corridor and eventually into the rooms. Since this is a no-contact hotel, there are no staff to keep an eye on things. We stayed for two nights in October, and this happened twice during our stay. The second time, I smelt it first from inside my room. Not good at all.

We arrived before the stated check-in deadline, only to find the property locked and completely unattended. Ordinarily, you’d expect an emergency line to be reachable a short while before and after check-in close—especially for international travelers—but every contact number went straight to voicemail, even when tried by another local hotel to rule out any call issues. Messages sent earlier in the day and before via the booking site also went unanswered, a serious red flag. With no way to gain access, we had to find alternate accommodations at our own expense. To make matters worse, the property outright refused to refund our payment, despite clear evidence (photos, voicemails) that they did not honor our reservation. To this day, they have not acknowledged or responded to our concerns. I strongly recommend not taking a chance and avoiding this establishment altogether; thankfully, there are friendly and honest venues within walking distance if you need last-minute lodging.
