OYO 909 Guiding Star Resort

The gardens are nice, the rooms are nice esp if you are staying on the top floor. The owners are good people. However, the prices for food are quite above average for the area. The owners are also not very hospitality driven. I felt bad about asking about something because the owner would often complain to me about how people were being "difficult". Difficult when they take too long to choose what they want to eat for example. After having asked once and still not having a clean bathroom I just didn't ask anymore because I didn't want to be a hassle, but I am maybe too sensitive.

I have mixed feelings about this place. Prices are reasonable and the garden setting is lovely. With a good pool. The WiFi was OK. The room we had was poor. We were on the upper floor and I guess it would have been OK except for the fittings. The door didn't have a handle to open and close it (see photo), there was no chair to sit anywhere (there were some outside for the other rooms but somebody had taken ours), the shower didn't work properly (almost normal in Thai resorts), the soap, shampoo dispensers had contradictory labels (see photo).
We got the impression that the rooms were being renovated and they hadn't gotten around to ours.
The bar and restaurant by the lake were lovely and Germanic. They had wine by the carafe at a reasonable price which is very unusual. We had dinner there which was a bit of a disaster, there was only one cook and they forgot our meal which didn't arrive for an hour or more during which we drank copious amount of wine. The owner was a jolly German man but obviously under pressure. He gave us yet another carafe of wine to make up for the delay. I asked him what he recommended and the pork steak with cabbage, gravy and dumpling was delicious, however another member of our party said her beef steak was inedible and went off in a huff.
