The Shores Holiday Apartments in Mackay

I am sorry to say, but this accomodation was sub par. If we had not already paid and needed the accomodation to be close to the wedding we were attending we would have left. When we entered there was a strong smell of urine, like an alley way near a pub. We discovered later that the smell was probably caused by wildlife living inside the unit. Definitely mice, but the last backside we saw fly under the couch on our last morning could have been a small possum. The furniture is mis-matched and dirty, the floors under the furniture were dirty, the glass dining table had food and mould where the glass and frame meet. Clutter everywhere, random pots and things jammed in corners, the lighting was hit and miss. Very dim, some fittings had no globes at all. No lights for the outside balcony or the downstairs courtyard. Not that you wanted to stand or sit in either area. The courtyard was filthy, empty pots, random broom handles and quite a bit of mess with it having never been swept. The broom was in one of the pots. The only redeeming areas were the bedroom, although cluttered (random huge arm chair infront of the wardrobes that had to be moved in order to get to the wardrobe), was comfortable and clean and so was the bathroom. Everywhwere else was messy, unkempt and in desperate need of a really good clean. I know the buildings are old but nothing beats a bit of elbow grease. The gardens, lawns and pool area were kept very well, so I dont understand why the unit was so shody. There are what I assumed permanent guests staying there so when you go on a walk you get to see their junk stored outside their units and hear their (again assuming) domestics, swearing at each other in the middle of the night. The internet although free was non-exsistent. I had to hotspot from my phone all weekend because the internet kept dropping out every minute or so. We come to Mackay quite a bit, but wont be staying at The Shores again. The 9/10 rating is definitely not true. We saw other accomadation same price range 10 times this facility.

We enjoyed the lovely pool and outside spa and the short walk to the beach, but overall our 3 night stay in the townhouse was disappointing. Both the single bed frames creaked loudly every time you moved which resulted in one person sleeping downstairs on the couch for 3 nights!! There was no shelf space to unpack, just hanging space in the main bedroom. The place could really do with a good spring clean as there is a moldy smell in the kitchen cupboards and main bedroom cupboards. There were no cereal bowls, so we bought our own and 2 extra coffee mugs as there was only one. Didn't manage to sit outside on the patio for long as the neighbors were smokers and we're not. Sorry, but we wont be back.
