Hotel Savonia in Kuopio

Just to set your expectations, this is an old boarding school converted to a hotel. It's that in both good, and bad. The design goes practicality first, which gives you no-frills rooms with dedicated bathrooms and toilets.

The rooms themselves are simple, but fine for short term stay for the area. Everything was cleaned properly and we had no gripes in the cleanliness in general.

The downside was that the rooms were really showing their age in many places, like leaky taps, cracked sink and other normal high-wear signs for a hotel room. The bathroom layout was odd, with hard wall between the toilet and shower making it more cramped than it needed to be, but it did its job. The TV didn't turn on even when it obviously had power and light on.

The beds were okayish, but a bit hard.

While the room didn't have a fridge, there was a communal use fridge in the hallway, with a microwave oven, coffee/tea makers and free utensils.

The breakfast, while not with the widest selection of options I've seen, was adequate for the economy theme.

The service was very good all the way, with every staff member we encountered being very helpful and polite. They however didn't appear to have many people around, with the check-in closed during the night and just couple of people there during daytime.

The hotel was easy to reach with a car, with just few turns after a highway ramp. They had a large parking lot and it was free.

Everything was as promised, clean and functional. The room was a bit cold and the antenna cable or its plug was tripped, so the TV could not be seen well. Reconnecting the cord helped, but it had to be repeated every time it was opened.
