Where to stay in Altenau

Good and clean hotel, clean rooms, reception and food are all good. I highly recommend it.

Went like that. If you are really hungry, you will not be full. I was looking forward to home-style cooking, but unfortunately the brawn was a ready-made product and the fried potatoes saw the pan far too short and the portion was very clear. But the service was nice.

We found ourself a little demanding but they solved all requests with a smile and went beyond even after we left they still offer their friendly service. The hotel consist out of multiple buildings. The group of Ukrainian refugees extends their special thanks to Ms. Detty and Mr. Engel for their hospitality and understanding of the exceptional circumstances that led to our delay. The overnight stay at the Garni Hotel Engel in Altenau lifted our spirits and gave our group renewed energy to tackle the Klippenweg hiking trail along the Oker Valley. We will definitely return here.

Highly recommended for a short trip!!! Superbly located, the thermal baths are nearby, and shopping is no problem either!!!! The owners are very, very nice and polite. The rooms are perfectly adequate and great for sleeping 😴! The bathroom and the room were clean and tidy!!!! The breakfast is also perfectly adequate, the selection is absolutely fine!! I will definitely stay there again if needed 🤩...

Very nice and friendly owners with a truly extensive breakfast buffet that caters to every need. Great value for money! Nice rooms and comfortable beds that provide a great night's sleep.

Room was good, mattresses were also OK, it was pleasantly quiet, service was very good, hosts were very nice and helpful. Breakfast is very good and plentiful, also good for bikers, we have our own garage for the bikes, we recommend going out to eat at Restaurant Hirsch, as breakfast is only available in Hotel Engel. But that wasn't a problem, the food is very good, the Altenauer Dunkel beer tastes...

Nice hotel in the center of Altenau. Run by two super nice and nice people. I just showed up spontaneously and got a room without any problems. The rooms are fine and adequately equipped for just staying overnight. Everything was very clean and the beds were comfortable. Everything seems a bit rustic and outdated, but it fits with the charm of the Harz and Altenau. Just have to like it. The breakfast...

Not a luxury hotel but great value for money and the host was super friendly

We spent our short break in the Harz Mountains here. The owner gave us a friendly welcome and was always up for a chat. Our room was beautifully decorated with nature pictures, and the modernized bathroom was also very stylish. Breakfast was plentiful. There are a few parking spaces right by the house. We felt very comfortable and will definitely come back :-)

Nice place, and location with good view

We lived in a large nice room. The host was very kind and we felt very welcome. The breakfast was really good. The only thing for me was that it was very thin walls so you heard your room neighbors. That made it a little bit hard for my dog but at the end of the day that’s my problem 😆 Thank you for a nice visit!

Really lovely couple. Easy to talk with and breakfast was good aswell. They were very helpfull with things to see, eat and do locally. One morning we did have to leave early for some sightseeing so they did make a amazing breakfast for our trip. Superb service all through our stay. Nice BnB in Altenau: nice room, nice bed and a delicious breakfast in a nice big living room. Great place as a base to discover the area, with ample parking and within walking distance of the pleasant village center. The owner is very welcoming and helpful and knows how to recommend the best restaurants in the area!!

Great and yet quiet location. We were there with motorbikes. The manager of the house immediately offered us a garage! Drinks were self-service with a "checkout of trust". Room was spacious, clean and functional. Breakfast was delicious. The price-performance ratio is right! Gladly again.

Will again book for my next trip , perfect experience

Nice stay Nice hotel in nice surroundings. Only minus was we had to wait for breakfast for 30 minutes.

Absolutely nice place, not 5* hotel, but definitely place with a soul. Friendly and kind stuff, rooms with big shower inside (family rooms), always fresh and tasteful breakfast with snack-to-do option available. Small library and table tennis downstairs , huge back yard with a fireplace you can use for free. Calm and quiet place
