Not a luxury hotel but great value for money and the host was super friendly

Very nice and friendly owners with a truly extensive breakfast buffet that caters to every need. Great value for money!

Room was good, mattresses were also OK, it was pleasantly quiet, service was very good, hosts were very nice and helpful. Breakfast is very good and plentiful, also good for bikers, we have our own garage for the bikes, we recommend going out to eat at Restaurant Hirsch, as breakfast is only available in Hotel Engel. But that wasn't a problem, the food is very good, the Altenauer Dunkel beer tastes very good, so from 5 stars, 5 stars. If we are ever in the area, we will stop there again.

Nice hotel in the center of Altenau.
Run by two super nice and nice people.
I just showed up spontaneously and got a room without any problems.
The rooms are fine and adequately equipped for just staying overnight.
Everything was very clean and the beds were comfortable.
Everything seems a bit rustic and outdated, but it fits with the charm of the Harz and Altenau. Just have to like it.
The breakfast was very good! Good selection of rolls, toast, scrambled eggs, bacon cold cuts etc. Tea and coffee filled you up.
Overall, it is ideal as a starting point for hikes, motorcycle tours or other activities.
I will come again

stopped here recently for 2 nights whilst touring in the Harz region by motorcycle. excellent location with ample parking (garages available for bikes ) Friendly owners and really good service, rooms were large and well appointed and the breakfast was excellent

Very nice hosts, very personal and familiar! Clean rooms, very good breakfast. We felt very comfortable and would be happy to come back!

We were there for a weekend with the motorcycle and felt very comfortable, the price / performance ratio was good. Very friendly welcome, the garage for the motorbikes was already open, the breakfast buffet was very rich and fresh. The owner was very courteous and friendly. We would love to come back.

A very nice couple, very friendly and warm welcome. They take time for each and every guest. Breakfast was very good and there was something for every taste. Room simple and cozy. Price is justified and we would come again.
