This is a lovely place! We stayed here for one night and can only recommend it. The owner is a really nice Icelandic guy, who can tell you a lot about his country and give you helpful travel advice. The room was in a separate house with a common room in the middle and (if I recall correctly) 4 bedrooms around it. Our room was very lovely and totally new. It had a cosy atmosphere, a super comfortable bed and an own bathroom. The view towards the mountain behind was breathtaking. There is breakfast for 8€ and you can take everything you find in the fridge of the common room. Basic toast, ham and cheese, some cereals, coffee, tea and cocoa. The selection could be better (maybe add some vegetables and different breads and cheese). I highly recommend earplugs, because you hear everything through the walls.

I really enjoyed my stay at Ljosaland! I arrived later in the evening and got set up in my room. The room was one of 4 I think in a building with a common sitting area. The place is really beautifully designed and clean and crisp! The main lodge is warm and inviting with a cozy fireplace room just near the dining room. Natural wood details abound with clean white walls, wooden tables and leather high back chairs. I wasn't that hungry so I ordered a bowl of Icelandic meat soup...aka lamb... It was a huge bowl served with three huge slices of homemade garlic bread. During dinner the two young men who worked the front desk and kitchen chatted with me and even brought a 3 day old lamb named Freyda to show me ... She had not been able to nurse from her mother so they had to take care of her! It was too cute... A lamb in a wool vest! Anyways I enjoyed the company that the banter as it made what would have been a lonely evening with some warm companionship. Oh and they brought me home made icecream on the house after I was done with the soup! My room was comfortable, clean, and cozy and I really would recommend this hotel... It's in a beautiful valley surrounded by giant mountains. The breakfast crew was not as jovial as the night crew, but breakfast was freshly made even though I was late. And I had honestly hoped to see some of that fresh bread from dinner the next day at breakfast, but it was good all the same. Thanks Aaron for the lovely evening and show and tell with Freyda! I guess not every visitor would be excited by that, but it made my night.

For one - two nights it is good to stop there. Nice and welcomed young staff. Modest but good breakfast (in hotel price not included). The price is slightly expensive (as everything in Iceland) for what is offered. However, room was clean, shower and WC OK. In the room kettle + tea/coffee available. Wifi was fast and good working. For each of two rooms there is in front of the doors sitting area. Restaurant and small grocery in place.

We stayed for three nights at ‘Gil’ with Nialls and Krippa. They were friendly and attentive and were able to provide us Nialls’ delicious beef burgers whenever we asked…each meal was 3,000 Krona, excellent value. Each double room set-up has an area set aside give you coffee, kettle & microwave, cutlery & crockery. There is also a hairdryer. Free parking outside your room

Nothing like a high class hotel but clean and tidy. The room was spacious with a kitchenette, toilet and a shower. Staff was friendly. Breakfast was nice and so were the hamburgers we had for dinner. And not to forget; a beautiful surroundings.

Really want to give this place good raiting because staff was absolutely great and food in the restaurant was wonderful. But rooms were not great, even if you don't expect much. Beds were on very high legs and very wobbly. No nightstands, single outlet only in a room. Bathroom didn't have any place at all to put your stuff. Overall it's ok if you are spending just one night, especially because next closest hotel is at least 30 minutes away, but I wouldn't want to spend any more time there.

Restaurant and hotel are run by ownership, which directly tanslates to the love and care that goes with agency. Accomodations are exactly as expected (clean and functional), and the restaurant is run with care. Chef (along with the owner) makes excellent food with no corners cut, most emblematic in their serving of handmade ice cream that comes out of experimenting in the kitchen. Really excellent - love this spot.

Hotel Ljósaland is ideal for an overnight stop. You check-in in the main restaurant building and the host will show you to the single storey log fronted building. Four of the bedrooms (3,4,5 and 6) are accessed through a main communal room where the self-service breakfast things are left. In the communal room there is a fridge for milk, fruit, juice, cheese and sliced meat. There isn't a lot of room in the fridge for putting your own things, but then that isn't what it is for. There is also a coffee machine (can be a bit temperamental), small kettle, microwave, toasted sandwich maker and a drawer full of plastic cutlery and paper plates. There is also cereal, chocolate spread and peanut butter.

The bedrooms are of a good size with a table and two chairs but there isn't anywhere (at least not in our Room 3) to put clothes, other than some coat hooks or over the back of the chairs. The beds are high so suitcases can slide underneath. The bed I had was comfortable although the other bed had a broken leg. There isn't a bedside light either so take a torch or use your mobile phone if you want to read. Great views from the front rooms too.

The bathroom is clean with towels and body wash provided. The hot water does take a few minutes to get to the tap so be patient.

There is no internal sound insulation so if you are staying in rooms 3,4,5 and 6 you will hear people come and go through the communal room area no matter how quiet they whisper. And they probably won't. Also, unless you are taking breakfast first, others preparing theirs will wake you up. And if you are in room 3, your table and wall will shake every time the drawer is pulled out and closed, fridge closed and coffee machine used.

As said above, this place is great for an overnight stop, on the way to or from the Westfjords. We didn't do our research and booked for a week (which was a surprise to our host when we arrived) so for us some of the niggly issues were exacerbated.

Great for an overnight stop but, in my opinion, avoid Room 3.
