Starhotels President Hotel in Genoa

This hotel is not as bad as the other reviews suggest. If you have the right expectations, this hotel does the job. I was there with my family for a vacation this past summer. We were taking a cruise from Genoa. We were looking for a hotel near the train station so we could do a self guided excursion to Cinque Terre and Pisa. We needed a hotel near the train station and of the two train stations in Genoa, Brignole is in a nicer (safer) area than Principe. Of the hotels near Brignole, this hotel is the closest and largest. It is an older hotel though they were undergoing renovation when I stayed there. We had 3 renovated rooms and one not renovated. The renovated rooms are very modern with new bathrooms and key card entry. The older room did seem like it was from the late 80s early 90s era with a keyholed door and a large key on a bulky keychain. You have the option of leaving the key at the front desk if you don’t want to carry it around. Though I would find a large metal key annoying if I had to stay here often, I found the nostalgia to be quite interesting and the room, though old was clean and the mattress was replaced recently and was comfortable. Service at the front desk and from the bell staff was very good and attentive. The restaurant also had good service though the menu may be a little limited for foreign travelers. The dishes are mostly regional dishes. But definitely try the pesto. It was invented in Genoa and is excellent. As mentioned before, this hotel is a quick 5 minute walk to the Brignole train station where the main intercity and high speed trains are located. There is also a subway stop here. The location is very convenient if you are using the train system. Overall, I would recommend this hotel if your plans call for train travel. Once the renovations are completed, it will be a top choice in the area.

Our stay at Starhotels President was a perfect blend of comfort, style, and convenience. The hotel’s modern design and spacious, well-kept rooms made it a relaxing retreat after exploring Genoa. Beds were comfortable, rooms spotlessly clean, and the atmosphere calm and welcoming. The location is excellent — just steps from transport links and within easy reach of the city’s attractions. The staff were professional, friendly, and always ready to help with a smile. A great choice for both business and leisure travellers looking for quality and comfort in the heart of Genoa.

The main advantage of this hotel is its location — just steps away from the train station and within easy walking distance of the city’s main attractions and the waterfront. Built in the 1960s–70s using the modern technologies and quality materials of that era, the hotel has largely retained its original style and atmosphere.
The rooms could definitely use some renovation. In my case, the air conditioner wasn't working well, and I was offered two alternative rooms — but both were in worse condition, with noticeable odors and creaky furniture. In the end, a technician came and, after turning the AC on and off five or six times, managed to get it working properly. :)
Despite these issues, the hotel does make a real effort to maintain a high level of service. The breakfast was good, the beds were comfortable, and the hotel also offers several conference rooms.
Overall, I recommend this hotel — with the above points in mind.

It's OK. There are many nice hotels in Genoa.

Great Hotel. I always come back willingly.
