There are separate baths for hotel guests (men’s and women’s), baths open to both guests and visitors (also divided by gender), as well as a private onsen. One of the onsens also has a sauna
What a wonderful experience in my stay at Krokawa-So! I particularly enjoy the public onzen which has a beautiful scenic view, and the two private onzens in my room ( both an in-door and an out-door)
The dinner and breakfast were also very good in terms of quality and local varieties! I shall return again!
The room is nestled by the mountains and water, offering direct access to the outdoor wilderness right outside the door – a truly exceptional experience
This ryokan is a bit further from the main cluster of inns, but that was exactly what we wanted—to enjoy quiet walking.
At night, our futons were laid out for us, adding to the authentic experience
This is a large ryokan located around Kurokawa Onsen, with a main building and an annex. This time, we booked a room in the annex, which was very spacious and even had a loft

After gesturing at the front desk for a while, the hotel drove us there directly – a 10-minute drive! Walking would have taken an hour, thank you!
Additionally, the front desk helped us book return bus tickets at check-in (there aren't many buses from Kurokawa Onsen to Fukuoka/Kumamoto each day, so booking in advance is essential to avoid missing out!)
The food was fantastic and delicious, and there were so many hot spring options to choose from, with beautiful scenery too. I really loved the cloaks provided; they not only kept me warm but also looked elegant when worn
This is a perfect place for a complete break in a secluded location. Although communication in languages other than Japanese was a bit challenging, the staff's proactive and welcoming attitude helped resolve everything.
This hotel is part of the same group as Sanmizuki and Shinmeikan. Sanmizuki is adjacent to Fukayama Sanso, located halfway up a mountain at the source of the hot spring
Guests can enjoy free access to the forest hot spring at Sanmizuki. The hot spring quality is superb, with abundant foam. The hotel provides free shuttle service
Before arriving, we contacted Ctrip to arrange for the hotel to pick us up from the bus station. The next day, we wanted to go to the Hirano Observatory

The whole experience was fantastic! The inn lives up to its name, surrounded by mountains and forests, with the sound of the river and the aroma of burning longan wood, taking the sensory experience to another level! Every service was incredibly attentive! Unfortunately, I couldn't eat much, but both dinner and breakfast were absolutely delicious! After a hot spring bath, you absolutely must try the...
A traditional Japanese ryokan in Kurokawa Onsen. The onsen, breakfast, and dinner were all exceptional, and the service was outstanding. Nestled amidst a forest, the surroundings are truly beautiful
Staying at Sanga Ryokan was like stepping into a postcard-perfect corner of rural Kumamoto — far from the bustle of big cities, nestled deep in lush forest along a gently flowing mountain stream
Both breakfast and dinner were served in my preferred Japanese style. The dishes were diverse, beautifully presented, and utterly delicious. And the tatami sleeping arrangements were incredibly comfortable
They also have an indoor sulfur hot spring, which is a medicinal bath and quite unique. In the evening after dinner, while soaking in the public hot spring, we saw fireflies – it was a truly magical sight
If you're looking for privacy and tranquility, this is the perfect spot. They offer a complimentary shuttle service; just let the front desk or the town's tourist information center know, and they'll arrange a pick-up

As for the drinks for breakfast, there was only coffee from the coffee machine. But there is always green tea in the room (we had problems with the hot pot, so they brought us a thermos)
A round trip from Tenjin by bus costs 8000 yen and takes three hours! Remember to book your tickets in advance as there aren't many services
The only thing we did not like was the heating. However, it is unlikely to do anything with it when it is minus 3 degrees outside at night. Without heating, it was very cold, the floor was cold
The ryokans are simple and clean! In the open-air onsen, you can listen to the gentle flow of the stream and feel that sense of tranquility
The old street in Kurokawa Onsen is very quaint and full of character! Most of the onsen ryokans are built along the creek
In the evening, during the illumination season, walking around in a yukata and geta (wooden clogs) is truly delightful! The kaiseki dinner featured exquisite and unique dishes, including local horse meat and wagyu beef! It was very filling, even for a woman! Please note that the restaurant intentionally doesn't have Wi-Fi; the owner hopes guests can quietly enjoy their meal without disturbance! I absolutely...

Sleeping in attic and you could sleep in the living room as well. If you want to see views go to camping area. Actually it is not really a big space but it is nice to be with families in this cozy cabin
The private bath outside was a perfect onsen temperature and the place was clean and comfortable. Very pleased that I booked our stay here. The parking space outside our house allowed our car rental to fit adequately.
There is public hot onsen if you want to go there. For those who camp there will be using those public onsen. The drive here is mountainous so most parts are like one lane
Best of all, it comes with a private outdoor onsen! Wow!
A patio for you to bbq and I saw maple trees beside the patio and would imagine nice views during autumn
We stayed in one of the cabins with private indoor and outdoor onsen. We loved it! It was our first onsen experience in Japan, but certainly not the last
We also checked out the public indoor and outdoor onsen but as we were traveling with small kids, we mainly opted for the private bath

We arrived just after snowfall so we were not impacted by snow on the roads, but it is probably a good idea to get the food options for your stay or bring some food with you for a short stay for dinner, as the roads around might be a little hard to navigate at night with no nearby walkable convenience
Everything I wish for a good ryokan is there. Warm hospitality, in-room open air bath, great meal, reclining full message chair, all in a suite by a stream. Reasonable price too! I will definitely go there again!
The place is a little of the beaten path and requires a car with snow tires equip, but it is worth the drive. There is parking available and the staff were amazing and the room was (house) was spectacular
It was a traditional Japanese house (sliding paper doors everywhere) with a lot of rooms to use including western style beds, massage chair and the all important private onsen bath which was a large and luxurious open air bath
There are also outdoor open-air baths and indoor public baths. Overall, the experience was superb. I recommend it to anyone who loves tranquility but is worried about the food – this place will satisfy you
The hotel is a 5-minute drive from Kurokawa Onsen's main street, and a 40-minute walk. Upon arrival, the hotel, nestled in the mountains, felt quaint and charming, making a great first impression

Having the opportunity to bath in the middle of nature is amazing! I also noticed that my skin got really nice and smooth. The breakfast is included but it doesn't change the menu, every morning is the same.
The hotel is located in the heart of the hot springs district. There's no parking available, so you have to park in a public parking lot and walk downhill, which can be tiring if you have a lot of luggage
The location is good, it's quiet, and it's nice and quaint, but the lack of hot springs is a bit of a shame. ㅠㅠ Instead, there are many good hot springs around, so you can use them with a hot spring pass
Even after checking out, I was ready to use the chat room as well as the luggage storage until the bus at 2:47 pm and I was able to quickly finish walking around the city on powder snow and wait for my departure
Although the hotel's onsen is no longer open, they do provide hand-shaped bathing utensils, and you can enjoy the public baths at many nearby hotels, which are also very good
The horse sashimi I ordered from Ala Carte goes well with hot water Kanehachi barley shochu and I am very pleased. For breakfast I enjoyed the plates in the basket

No matter how many times I go, I have lots of fun memories. But now I'm avoiding going out and weighting myself. I wonder if Corona will converge soon, no, it will end
This was a last-minute trip for us as couples, and it's been a while since we last stayed here. We were able to relax in a quiet environment
We took a cable car to Tenku no Yu, where we enjoyed our open-air bath with a spectacular view. The indoor bath in our room was also very spacious, and by opening the window we could feel like we were in an open-air bath
I was drawn to the private observation bath and cable car. I enjoyed a long soak in the slightly warm hot spring while admiring the magnificent view from high up! It was fantastic
A kitten came onto the terrace, so I played with it for a bit, and when I asked the staff, they surprised me by saying it wasn't a pet but a stray!
I was also given a chocolate croissant on my way out, which was delicious
The food and room interior also created a nice atmosphere, and the best part was the quiet space and time where I could relax, far from the hustle and bustle of the city

The room is comfortable, with two private onsens, which is convenient, but the larger public ones are also interesting, and both are wonderfully designed
The food is excellent, exotic for us, so this experience met all our expectations. Thank you to the owners and staff, everyone is very friendly and attentive. I really want to go back there again
The environment is absolutely beautiful! This is my second time staying here, and I'm really impressed by how attentive and dedicated the staff are
Fortunate we already walked around the kurokawa center the previous night so not a big problem for us but if someone want to walk around, it will be a little distance to get to the center of Kurokawa onsen center area
Rekkan is excellent! I chose peace and comfort away from the village and I wasn't wrong. Surrounded by nature, quiet, with only a few rooms. If you need to escape the hustle and bustle, this is the place for you
We were caught by service with the outside onsens that did not have a bathing area. We went back to our room to take a bath first before going back to the outside onsens to enjoy
