What a wonderful experience in my stay at Krokawa-So! I particularly enjoy the public onzen which has a beautiful scenic view, and the two private onzens in my room ( both an in-door and an out-door). The dinner and breakfast were also very good in terms of quality and local varieties! I shall return again!
Perfect for couple, food is good, staff is helpful
The room is nestled by the mountains and water, offering direct access to the outdoor wilderness right outside the door – a truly exceptional experience. If you're lucky, you might even get to enjoy an outdoor hot spring bath during a heavy snowfall.
This is a large ryokan located around Kurokawa Onsen, with a main building and an annex. This time, we booked a room in the annex, which was very spacious and even had a loft. There were two private onsen baths right in the room, and another one just outside the room. The experience was absolutely incredible.
The hotel environment is excellent, and the hot spring facilities are top-notch. The staff are incredibly friendly, and the food served is delicious, with both breakfast and dinner being high quality. It's definitely worth another visit.
An absolutely wonderful experience.
The staff at the ryokan were incredibly polite and always ready to help with anything we needed. Upon check-in, we were provided with traditional attire, pajamas, tabi slippers, bath amenities, and a small welcome treat with matcha and coffee. We also asked at the front desk if they could give us a ride to the bus stop after check-out, and they kindly said yes, of...

This is a perfect place for a complete break in a secluded location. Although communication in languages other than Japanese was a bit challenging, the staff's proactive and welcoming attitude helped resolve everything.
The food was fantastic and delicious, and there were so many hot spring options to choose from, with beautiful scenery too. I really loved the cloaks provided; they not only kept me warm but also looked elegant when worn.
Overall, very satisfied. This hotel is part of the same group as Sanmizuki and Shinmeikan. Sanmizuki is adjacent to Fukayama Sanso, located halfway up a mountain at the source of the hot spring. Guests can enjoy free access to the forest hot spring at Sanmizuki. The hot spring quality is superb, with abundant foam. The hotel provides free shuttle service. Before arriving, we contacted Ctrip to arrange...
A truly perfect design and stay experience. The hotel boasts a luxurious size for a Japanese hotel, excellent service, a beautiful environment, and delicious food. A wonderful experience. Definitely worth staying here again.
Location is a bit far off from Karukawa Onsen area (5 minute by car but 30 minutes by foot). The rooms/baths don't feel or look very clean. The food is so-so.
Very nice public baths (you could use all three public baths in their sister hotels nearby

This was a last-minute trip for us as couples, and it's been a while since we last stayed here. We were able to relax in a quiet environment. We took a cable car to Tenku no Yu, where we enjoyed our open-air bath with a spectacular view. The indoor bath in our room was also very spacious, and by opening the window we could feel like we were in an open-air bath. The food, baths, and staff service were...
We were looking for a more traditional ryokan away from it all. This place hit the spot. We really enjoyed the peacefulness and seclusion. The trip to it - rental car - was a worthwhile trek! The food was fabulous and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. There were a variety of onsen. We came away with a very relaxing and satisfied feeling!
I was drawn to the private observation bath and cable car. I enjoyed a long soak in the slightly warm hot spring while admiring the magnificent view from high up! It was fantastic. The hot spring in the room was an indoor type, but it was quite spacious and relaxing, which was also great. The food and room interior also created a nice atmosphere, and the best part was the quiet space and time where...
I went to check out the in-room hot spring because it looked spacious. The water was a little lukewarm, so it might not be suitable for those who prefer very hot water. The view from the open-air bath with a view was fantastic. The only downside was that the futon seemed a bit moldy. Otherwise, the food was delicious and I was very satisfied. The road to get there is really narrow, so be careful...
The service here is excellent. It's a quiet, Japanese-style inn. The staff are very polite, but perhaps lack experience with foreign guests, requiring a translation machine. Regarding the food, since there were seven of us, we had to share half hot pot and half barbecue. It would have been better if both were provided. They offer horse meat sashimi, which is quite unique. Overall, it's very good value...
The location was too remote and the atmosphere of the ryokan was a bit cold, so it wasn't a pleasant atmosphere. The ryokan only had three outdoor communal baths, and there were no special amenities. The food is just like that. I have no intention of visiting again

Staying at Sanga Ryokan was like stepping into a postcard-perfect corner of rural Kumamoto — far from the bustle of big cities, nestled deep in lush forest along a gently flowing mountain stream. The moment I arrived, the earthy scent of cedar and moss greeted me, and a sense of calm washed over me as I walked up the winding path to the traditional entrance.
The whole experience was fantastic! The inn lives up to its name, surrounded by mountains and forests, with the sound of the river and the aroma of burning longan wood, taking the sensory experience to another level! Every service was incredibly attentive! Unfortunately, I couldn't eat much, but both dinner and breakfast were absolutely delicious! After a hot spring bath, you absolutely must try the...
The best onsen ryokan I've stayed at so far.
The service was excellent, and the rooms are spacious. Each room features its own private 'Qieshi' hot spring bath. They provide a shuttle service to and from the Kyushu Odan Bus Station. Upon check-in, you can book a time slot for the private onsen. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious, with dinner even being served directly in our room, which added a very special touch.
This is a very atmospheric hotel, nestled by a river in a dense forest. Our room overlooked a rushing river. The private wooden bath offered stunning views. They also have an indoor sulfur hot spring, which is a medicinal bath and quite unique. In the evening after dinner, while soaking in the public hot spring, we saw fireflies – it was a truly magical sight. We found the Japanese cuisine at this...
This is a traditional Japanese ryokan, built with beautiful wooden architecture. It's located on the westernmost edge of Kurokawa Onsen town, about two kilometers from the main area. If you're looking for privacy and tranquility, this is the perfect spot. A round trip from Tenjin by bus costs 8000 yen and takes three hours! Remember to book your tickets in advance as there aren't many services. The old street in Kurokawa Onsen is very quaint and full of character! Most of the onsen ryokans are built along the creek. The ryokans are simple and clean! In the open-air onsen, you can listen to the gentle flow of the stream and feel that sense of tranquility...
The place is vey old and vintage. The baths look awful because of iron in the water and thet require renovation. Unfortunately we didn’t like our dinner as it was too specific. It is not the first kaiseki dinner for us but it was not the tastiest one.
I loved our stay at Ryokan Youmotosou. Everything was great room, food, onsen. Staff was very helpful. Definitely would recommend to anyone.
Staffs are very polite and the meals are great.
Very good place, I want to repeat next year.
I really liked the hot springs with high iron content in this ryokan: I had sore throat for about 3 weeks before the journey, but it recovered just after the first bath. We also liked that family baths are for free if they are vacant (in the evening there wasn't any problem). The staff is attentive, thank you very much. The food was delicious, and there was more than enough for a man. However, we would...

Beautiful onsen hotel. Excellent services. Brilliant food.
Perfect peaceful zen resort. Attentive staff and elegant experience. A must stay!
The rooms in the main building were a bit dated, and the value for money wasn't great on weekends. However, the quality of both breakfast and dinner was quite good. They also offered a dedicated shuttle service to the bus station. The hot spring was just average.
This was the most stunning place we stayed during our 12-day trip, a true secluded gem nestled deep in the mountains. Upon arrival at the parking lot, we noted there were only a handful of cars, perhaps ten at most. A dedicated staff member was immediately on hand to assist with our luggage. The attention to detail was evident even in the lobby, where staff were seen meticulously cleaning luggage wheels...
The room was absolutely fantastic, offering stunning views from the window. Despite the hotel's opening year being listed as 1998, the interior decor and facilities didn't feel dated at all. It clearly underwent a recent renovation in the past few years, giving it the impression of a brand new hotel. However, there were some water stains around the toilet in the bathroom.
Everything was excellent – the dining, the rooms, and the exquisite decor. I particularly enjoyed soaking in the hot spring while surrounded by lush greenery. The only minor drawback was a recurring noise at night in the room; I couldn't tell if it was the air conditioning or water pipes.

Amazing experience ! I enjoy the room and onsen so much . The room is so big, tidy and cozy, with two private hot baths, one indoor and one outdoor. The onsen resort offers 5 private baths on top of public bath, giving very good privacy and allowing me to enjoy quality time with my fam.
The staff were so friendly and the people were nice!! However, it is difficult to communicate in anything other than Japanese, so if you are not a local, you may not be satisfied. The accommodation is old and worn out, and the hot spring is small and the water is not good compared to other ryokans.

A hot spring inn overlooking the majestic Mt. Yufu, the symbol of Yufuin. There are 10 rooms in total, including 5 detached detached buildings and 5 separate buildings in the forest. This was by far the best Ryokan experience we had in all aspects and the price reflects it (T_T). We got the room with a view of Mt. Yufu and it was amazing to soak in the onsen while watching the sunset and sunrise. This seems to be a very small Ryokan, with maybe 10-12 isolated rooms. The kaiseki here was our favorite of the 4 ryokans we stayed at during our trip. I was introduced to hojicha gelato...
This is my first attempt at writing a Google review because my experience was so good. The cuisine was delightful, the staff were helpful, and the view was breathtaking (a vantage point to witness the sunrise, snow and all of yufuin town while soaking in the onsen). We have been to about 4 onsen trip now and this is the 5th onsen we stayed and I must say, all the previous 4 of them can't compare to this. The hotel is large but old. Reviews mentioned guests could use the heating for free during certain periods, but that wasn't the case; it was charged for all times! The breakfast was plentiful! The service was... well, let's just say it was a bit lacking.
The kaiseki was delicious, and I came with my mom. She praised the staff for being incredibly friendly. There were outdoor and indoor baths, so we chose whichever. The accommodations were clean and nice.
The most unforgettable moment of my trip to Yufuin was my stay at Oyado Kaikatei Ryokan. From the moment I checked in, the staff's bright smiles and meticulous attention to detail truly impressed me. Wonderful hotel. We stayed there two nights. It’s very simple to find it Traditional Japanese style dinner was delicious Private bathroom was very good In the hotel very clean, nice and quiet We absolutely love it
The service is first-class. Although the environment is old, it is well maintained. There are indoor and outdoor private baths, which are very comfortable. As for the two meals, the dinner is eight points overall and tastes very good. The breakfast is completely unacceptable and there is no way to eat it.

It was a very pleasant inn. The view from the entrance was great, and although I had a room facing the mountains, I could see the view from the entrance whenever I wanted. I also enjoyed the night view from the entrance while eating ice cream after taking a bath in the hot spring. The food was also very good, and I was satisfied with both the appearance and the taste.

The correspondence of the staff is very good. It was like an old-fashioned inn, so I didn't know how to lock the room, but when I called, he immediately came to teach me. There is also a family bath, so reservations cannot be made, but each time a family goes up, they will be cleaned and you can enter. The scent of Darjeeling tea from Zemid, which I love body soap, shampoo, and conditioner for family...
It's okay, a bit small, but homely. The facilities are clean but nothing too extravagant. They offer a simple but authentic Japanese homestay-like experience. Good place for a stop-over.
Great service and food is rather good. The rooms are old but comfortable. Air conditioning was cool and water pressure in the bathrooms was rather impressive.
Great Japanese style rooms. Everything thing you need for a reasonable price.

Had a very good stay in this hotel. I got a room that was probably renovated recently(not all rooms are renovated!). Everything looks brand new and modern. The room is spacious with a large toilet split into 3 sections. This hotel is value for money
AMAZING STAFF AND PERFECT LOCATION FOR THE KUMAMOTO CASTLE. The room is in decent size and spotless cleaness, which we do appreciate with. Close to restaurants, convenient stores and supermarket.
Although the hotel is a bit old, however, location, cleanliness and hotel services have made up the lost. It’s a highly recommended hotel to stay after all
good for the price, right next to the castle, nice service of placing my luggage in to my room.
As it is not near the JR station, you need to take a tram to get there. But it is near the castle and the arcade where there are many stalls to shop. Service is excellent. The bed is quite comfortable too.
Location of this hotel is very convenient! With great Castle view! Room is spacious and clean! Staff are helpful and nice, even met one speak Cantonese👍 Definitely will recommend this hotel to friends and of course will stay here on my next trip!👍👍👍

The transportation is convenient and the service is exceptionally thoughtful.
The front desk staff spoke excellent English, making communication smooth. The hotel's location is fantastic; there's a bus stop right outside, and shopping malls are directly across the street, as well as behind the building. Kumamoto Bus Terminal is also within walking distance. Plus, there's a restaurant called Flour across the street that serves amazing toast! The room was spacious, and the bathroom...
The room wasn't huge, but it was quite comfortable, and you could see Kumamoto Castle right from the window. For breakfast, you could choose between a buffet or traditional Japanese. Since we'd had enough Japanese breakfast at the onsen hotel before this, we opted for the Western-style buffet both days. The variety was great, and they even had the popular Aso Volcano milk! If I had known, I wouldn...
The location is superb. After arriving at Kumamoto Airport, you can take the airport bus to 'Kamitori' and the hotel is right there. It's in the heart of Kumamoto city, directly opposite a classic department store with Kumamoto-themed products, perfect for shopping. The tram stop is just a short walk away, offering easy access to the JR station and various attractions. The commercial pedestrian street...
This is my second time staying at this hotel in Kumamoto, and it offers great value for money. The location is absolutely fantastic; all the shopping spots are right on your doorstep. Our room had a view of Kumamoto Castle, and they can add an extra bed, so it was no problem for our family of five to sleep comfortably! The hotel staff also provide excellent service. Every time I've been here, the front...
The hotel's location is fantastic! There's a bus stop right downstairs. The concierge on the first floor helped us book bus tickets to Aso and Kagoshima, making our travel super smooth. It was much more convenient than going to the bus terminal ourselves. The room was compact but well-arranged, and all the toiletries were provided, even face wash, toner, and lotion from LA MER. You can pretty much...

The bathroom felt a bit old, but the service, cleanliness, and location were all excellent. I loved the Kumamon bear in the lobby, it was super cute! I wasn't quite sure how to do the self-checkout, but the staff were helpful.
Must booked their Kumamoto theme room, if not is superb small. The Kumamoto theme room is big and comfortable. Kumamon inside is cute. Come with welcome gift in room as well.
Excellent location, just connected to Nagasaki JR station via a pedestrian walkway. The foods in the breakfast are rich and plentiful.
Liked the room. Kumamoto bear theme. Even have gifts every day you stay. Just a let down is the parking for tall car is abt 7mins walk but with in-out privileges
We had the themed kumamon rooms. Nicely decorated, comfortable beds, spacious and clean. Too bad just a folder as souvenir, would be nice if we could have the kumamon toy as well. Kids would be delighted. Very friendly staff, our car was a bit to high for the garage so the staff came with us to show where to park nearby.  Coin laundry 10 min walks to shops/ restaurants
Kumamoto is Kumamon's hometown, and the hotel is filled with Kumamon-themed elements. Check-in was very convenient, and the hotel offers great value for money. Kumamoto is also quite a retro city, with a very old-school feel. My trip was a bit rushed, so there were many places I didn't get to see, but the hotel was excellent.

Room is spacious, street parking is available nearby, clean room. Nice environment
The room was super clean, well decorated and full equipped. The checkin process was easy. The hotel uses the machine for checking in and out. During my check in, there was a staff to facilitate me with it. The staff was really nice. They provided various amenity kits you can pick them up at the lobby to use in your room.
Favourite hotel chain in Japan. Minimalist, clean with good amenities

convenient location and very clean and large room. washing machine was a huge help, and the lack of a dryer was not an issue at all as previously feared because their bathroom heater / air dryer was more than sufficient. will stay again
