Great ryokan on natural hot springs, spacious rooms, excellent service
Fantastic breakfast and dinner. Clean and well-equipped rooms. A little noisy. Large anteroom with bathroom. Balcony with an additional room in front for relaxation. Separate large bathroom with sauna and onsen, perfect for relaxing after a hike.
The large public bath was a fantastic amenity, especially after a sweaty day of trekking. Having a bus stop conveniently located right in front of the property was another major plus.
The hotel is conveniently located with a bus stop right outside. For guests without a car, a shuttle service is also provided. You can rent mountaineering equipment from the lobby, where a microwave is also available for use. The breakfast was delicious, and the staff were very polite and hospitable.
I stayed here to go to Jomon Sugi. The front desk staff were kind enough to give me lots of advice. Even though I arrived the night before my departure, they were able to order a lunch box to take on the trekking. The bus stop is right in front of the hostel, and the morning bus to Jomon Sugi was convenient.
It felt like an old-fashioned inn. If you return at night, there is no hot water, so you end up taking a cold bath. We stayed with four people, and the room was spacious and comfortable. It was a little disappointing that there were not many electrical outlets. Breakfast was fish, udon noodles, and other dishes that warmed both the body and soul. It was delicious.

I ended up with a sinus infection the day we arrived. After a horrible fever and 24 hours of worrying i would need to end my trip early, i decided to request assistance from the front desk in making an appointment with the local hospital. After not being avle to get a taxi the Vice Manager of the hotel drove me in his personal vehicle and waited 45 minutes when the Dr came out. Amazing service. The...
Onsen gift shop staff service overall. Spacious rooms great view!!
nice, clean and comfortable hotel to recover from the long hike. the deco is old but neat and tidy
I stayed here with a friend on a trekking tour of Yakushima. My friend stayed in an ocean view room and I stayed in a mountain view room, but personally I recommend the mountain view room because it has a great view of the majestic mountains of Yakushima.
The bath is excellent, the sulfur spring makes your skin smooth. The breakfast buffet was also delicious and the vegetables were fresh, I was impressed. It's a little far, but it's worth going.
The Pros: The hotel is big, with wonderful mountain and ocean views. Rooms are big. The staff was mostly very courteous. The Cons: Built in the 1980s, the hotel doesn’t appear to have been renovated since then, giving it a “lost in time” feel. Very outdated facilities for charging electronic devices. Beds not comfortable. Food at the restaurant is expensive and mediocre. The hotel is also A LONG...

I had a wonderful stay at Sadakata Hotel in Yakushima. The staff were exceptionally kind and went out of their way to help me when my flight was delayed, even arranging an airport pickup despite the schedule change. When a typhoon was approaching, they also assisted me with arrangements to safely leave the island, which I deeply appreciated. The meals were absolutely delicious—perfect after a long...
This is the best hotel on Yakushima Island, with excellent service. Electric bicycles are available for rental, allowing you to explore the nearby waterfalls and countryside, which are beautiful. The sauna by the pool is definitely worth trying, but reservations are recommended.
After hiking for two days, I took another day to rest. It turned out to be the right choice. I took a bath in the big bath several times, which was quite refreshing. With the delicious food and excellent service, my body recovered a lot! These three days were quite magical and relaxing. I highly recommend Sankara Hotel!
Sankara Hotel is in an excellent location, overlooking the sea and mountains. The rooms are well-equipped and spacious. The service staff is very friendly and solves problems in a timely manner. The food is also very good. It's just that the menu prices are not clear. I hope it can be improved.
Yakushima’s best An amazing service, reception are super helpful, rooms are luxurious, modern and ultimately clean. Great poo, great spa, dinner at the Michelin restaurant was fantastic.
Incredible all around Our stay was amazing from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. A spectacular week of beautiful views of ocean and mountains, along with a pool and firepit set amongst it all. Service was incredible from small to larger requests. Food was absolutely delicious and varied and atmosphere natural and reflective of the island. I hope I never lose the memory of this hotel...

I was right to choose the ocean view room! The weather was great, so I was able to spend the day looking at the beautiful ocean. I added the breakfast and dinner buffet, and the food was delicious, and the staff were also wonderful. I'll definitely stay here again if I come to Yakushima!
Perfect! The scenery is stunning, and the service is excellent. They always smile and patiently answer every question! There is only one restaurant for all three meals, breakfast is over 200 yuan, and dinner is over 400 yuan. Both are buffets. They are exquisite and delicious, but there are too few varieties, especially the dinner price. I feel that the value for money is too low. I stayed for three...
Excellent hotel! Fantastic food and service. Friendly English speaking staff. Will definitely return.
A super nice Yakushima Hot Spring Hotel. If you want to stay on the island for one night, this hotel will definitely not disappoint you. The hot spring facing the sea, especially the scenery in the morning and evening is great!
Very satisfactory hotel! The hotel is in a very good location, you can watch the sunrise while lying in bed. There is a hot spring inside, the room is comfortable, the breakfast is delicious, and the staff is very enthusiastic! It is worth recommending to more friends

Very nice hotel with very friendly staff.
The oldest, slender gentleman with graying hair at the front desk first asked me about my travel plans for the next few days. Then, using a translation app, he communicated with me sentence by sentence to help me plan my itinerary. This was incredibly detailed, down to whether I wanted a bento box for breakfast or lunch, what time to catch the train each day, where and when to transfer, what time the...
The room was a bit pricey, but very clean and tidy, and the sea view was absolutely amazing. The hotel staff were incredibly warm and attentive.
The hotel is about 15 to 20 minutes' walk from Anfang Port. The bus stop is called Central Station No. 61, which is quite convenient. The hotel staff are very friendly and patient in answering questions. The natto for breakfast is delicious. You can see the sea when you open the room you stay in. After climbing, the hotel is very considerate and will bring you plastic tape to pack your hiking shoes...
After taking the high-speed boat from Kagoshima South Pier to Anbo Port, you need to take a bus or taxi to the hotel. Many mountaineering enthusiasts choose this place. There is a bus that goes directly to the Arakawa trail entrance at 4:36 every morning in front of the hotel. The hot spring left my skin feeling incredibly smooth! My relative, who has atopic dermatitis and came with me, also said it was great for their skin. The breakfast was enjoyable, with a choice of rice or congee and various toppings. Plus, there were many delicious daily small side dishes that made me so happy. When I felt lightheaded from the hot spring, the staff and manager were incredibly concerned...
Onsen facility is good. Ingredients and contents for Dinner and Breakfast are considered overprice. There is no lift access which is Inconvenient. Staff did not offer to send the luggage to the room.
Good ryokan Good ryokan, with an excellent location, in front of the airport and with a good onsen. However, the food could be more special given that it is a ryokan. Not bad, but it was not up to my expectations
All the staff is very friendly, and the amenities are also very good. Very cozy environment, excellent food and very good onsen. Even when we left at 4 am for an early hike, the hotel provided a morning meal for pick up. They really focus on omotenashi, that is welcoming the customers! Amazing stay!
The price-performance ratio is unacceptable, 30,000 yen, or about 180 euros per night for 80s furnishings is a completely excessive and unjustifiable price, especially since breakfast and dinner as well as a packed lunch each cost at least 2,200 yen, or about 13 euros extra. The staff are extremely courteous and friendly. The atmosphere is pleasant.
An authentic onsen, at least it felt authentic to me, being no expert of Japanese culture. Traditional rooms, make sure to book one with the bath in the room. It’s not a fancy place, but really enjoyable. It reminded me of school trips, but in a weirdly positive way. The proximity to the airport was not an issue, didn’t hear the planes and there was no irritating traffic. The food was good and supposedly...

Nice and comfortable stay in Yakushima. Convenient travel from Anbo Port and to Yakusugi Land hiking. The hotel staffs are very friendly and helpful with couple staffs speak English. This hotel was booked for me by YES Yakushima and i stayed for 5 nights. The interior of this hotel is really, really dated and gets a borderline 3 stars for me - but more importantly, it was clean (i didn't come to Yakushima for comfort after all) All the staff i encountered were very friendly and courteous and made my stay delightful. The view from the room was awesome. We visited in January and felt the room was a bit cold. There are two public baths in the hotel, but they are not real onsen water and they don’t open in the morning. The building is overall very outdated and requires a serious maintenance, but the room itself was pretty good. Nice size room, clean and with attached toilet & shower.
A great traditional hotel in a beautiful location, overlooking a river. I had a very spacious room with a great view. On 6th floor, the view from well equipped Cafe, restaurant and public area is marvelous!
Recommended for those who are climbing. The room is graded and aging, but There is a set of facilities (large communal bath, laundry, dryer, drying room), and the service is perfect. Supper and breakfast feel like hmm I think it's the price of an inn.
Good rooms, but could use a bit of improvement. Overall, its a great place to stay at.

Location was great, the infrequent bus service, if you opt for public transport, drops you near the port if you arrived via domestic flight, or it will take you approx 5-10 minutes to get to the hotel if you travel by ship from Kagoshima. Wonderful hotel on a hidden gem island, which is Yakushima. Can't say enough of the room size, its amenities and an absolutely amazing view from the balcony. The lobby has a nasty smell, the room is retro and the facilities are old, the breakfast is good
The facilities are very old, but it is close to Miyanoura Port. The price/performance ratio is low, but it is convenient to rent clothes and shoes.
There are plenty of parking spaces. We booked a new annex with breakfast and dinner. The balcony faces the beach of Oni no Washboard. The surprise was the dinner for both nights. The room was bigger than I expected and the location was good. It was quiet and good for stargazing at night.
I thought it would be somewhat uncomfortable because it was a guesthouse, but it was a newly renovated building, so it was very clean, and the travelers were well-mannered, so I felt good during my stay. It was a tatami room.
Great budget accomodation in Miyanoura! The staff/worker downstairs in the shop is super friendly, helped me break down my larger bills into smaller ones multiple times, and enthusiastically greeted me every time I saw him. The room was quite spacious and clean, and very affordable. Although, you'd want to bring ear plugs or noise cancelling headphones, as the soundproofing is quite poor/walls are...
Very nice team, great location, comfortable and traditional rooms, shared kitchen where you can get to know fellow travelers and very clean. Would happily come back.
The boss has several B&Bs with similar locations but different types. The one I booked this time is a fairly new one. It has clean and good sanitary facilities and I saw many Western guests staying there. The B&B has shared bathing and toilets but they are very clean. It takes about fifteen minutes to walk to Ura Port, the most prosperous port in Yakushima.

A very nice stay. Kind staff, great prepared meals, and a nice shower in the room after a long hike.
The place is very quiet. I initially wanted to hike the Jomon Sugi trail, but with limited time and insufficient preparation, it wasn't possible. However, Kentaro was so very helpful in suggesting an alternative trekking itinerary. Hopefully I wasn't too annoying with my endless questions :)

The people at the inn were very kind and gave us lots of advice. The meals were also very filling. We woke up early in the morning and were able to see some baby sea turtles. We were very satisfied.
The location is great. The white sand beach is right in front of the room, with a spectacular view. We even got to see sea turtles hatching. The food is excellent with a wide selection, but the drink selection is limited.
Very nice couple - get the meals there aren't any other options around
This part of Yakushima is pretty empty. Do your research first!! Bring food. And most restaurants in the area are cash only. Overall beautiful location with a nice private beach!

I stayed here for a few nights for work in January 2026. I understood from the website that the rock bath was closed due to the off-season, but I wish the toilets were cleaned every day. We stayed as a group of three. The room had bunk beds and was clean. There were two spiders in the private bathroom, but the shower pressure was stronger than the rock bath, so if the rock bath is busy, the private bathroom is a viable option.
