Tokushima Grandvrio Hotel in Tokushima

My review is a bit harsher than some of my other hotel reviews, but this is due to the higher nightly rate and thus setting higher expectations.

Sadly, I am disappointed with my stay both on a product level as well as a service level. The only positive thing I can say is that they allowed me into my room at 14:20 when checkin is technically 15:00, and the on-site parking was free.

Now, onto the lesser parts. This hotel is definitely of large size, aimed at hosting groups, conventions, parties and weddings. This is apparent from the way the location is set up, as well as how they treat their customers. It's much more focused on the groups than on the individuals.

When I checked in, there was no explanation or promotion of any of their restaurants to me. The receptionist just gave me a little flyer and said "Here is more info", but it really only contained the wifi password and checkout time. Even the binder in the drawer in the room had zero restaurant info. So, I guess they don't want people to spend money when staying? A bit confusing, but since they didn't explain anything to me, I also didn't bother visiting their restaurants/bars, since they clearly didn't want or need my business.

The room itself was spacious; and thats about all I have to say about it that's positive. The furniture, wallpaper, carpet and tiling looks dated and worn out. The desk console and table had obvious signs of damage and bubbles under the cheap finish. The lights are confusing with too many buttons and remotes. The AC is central, and you can only control the airflow and at what temperature you want it to cut off. It took a while for my room to cool down because I think the sun hit the windows for a while, and the electricity doesn't work unless the card is plugged in.

Onto my least favorite part, sadly; the bathroom. At first glance, I was so happy to see a full sized bath tub. But that happiness quickly went away when I saw that there was mold growing in between the tiles in various places, there was bacterial growth (the pink kind) on the shower curtain meaning it hasn't been watched in ages, the soap dispenser was falling apart and being held together with tape and the bathtub just looked old.

They only put me on the 4th floor, so my view was mostly the entrance area and a little bit of river. And the window was quite dirty with dust caked on the outside, so it wasn't that spectacular to me either.

I really regret paying quite a lot compared to what I have paid at other hotels and not only receiving an old and worn product, but also receiving sub-par service for such a caliber of a hotel. I wouldn't recommend staying here, and I wouldn't come here again.
