Regional Museum of History and Arts in Kaliningrad

Description

The Kaliningrad Regional Museum of History and Arts (Russian: Калининградский областной историко-художественный музей) is a museum along the Lower Pond in Kaliningrad, Russia. The building was originally the Stadthalle, a performing arts center in Königsberg, Germany.

The Stadthalle was planned by Oberbürgermeister Siegfried Körte in 1907 and opened in the Vorder-Roßgarten district in 1912 according to designs by Richard Seel. It included concert halls (Körtesaal, Krohnesaal, and Gebauhrsaal), a restaurant, and a garden cafe by the Schlossteich. The Königsberger Philharmonie often performed in the 1,600-seat center. The Stadthalle was used as a military hospital during World War I. The building was heavily damaged by the 26 August 1944 Bombing of Königsberg in World War II. After the war it was part of Soviet Kaliningrad.

The former Stadthalle was restored from 1981-86. Since 1991 it has hosted the Kaliningrad Regional Museum of History and Arts. The museum, founded in 1946, previously had multiple locations throughout the city. It includes exhibits on regional nature, archaeology, history, World War II, and post-war Kaliningrad. The museum also has branches in the city and the Kaliningrad Oblast.

Kaliningrad is full of museums that are, to me, odd amalgams. This is yet another one.

The exhibits on animals were pretty interesting, but the further I got into the museum the organization got weirder and weirder. There was a lot of Soviet stuff that was pretty fascinating but really cheesy.

Was at the exhibition of spiders and Scorpions. It is terribly interesting. Gave to hold the hands of Scorpion. Impressions of the sea.

Such a big area, beautiful renovation in the lobby, and so few exposures ((( pictures are very small, only modern artists apparently... more expectations. But what I saw - beautiful and interesting.

Quite an interesting Museum. Besides the exhibited specimens of flora and fauna were pleasantly surprised by dioramas of the battle and interactive platform where you take pictures in historical dress. The exposition of the life of the 19th century to appeal to all girls. And men military themes, which is widely represented.

Nice Museum with lots of exhibits. To visit at least once but worth it. Plus constantly changing exhibitions. Went, in particular, to the exhibition of Tesla - it was very interesting

The Museum lives up to its name. Inside are extensive compositions dedicated to the wild, art, different periods of a warrior. Very interesting place, worth a visit in one of the first days. Nice staff.
