Budget place in the heart of the city. The rooms are small enough, but if you spend days exploring the beauties of the city and going on various excursions, and in the evening come and sleep off - that's it! Shower and toilet in the room, small TV, breakfast in the morning in the room. In general, everything you need is in the room.

Having been to a fair share of such museums, this has to be the best one yet. Although most signs are in Russian, you can still learn a great deal from the exhibits. All signs are accompanied by the latin name of the species, which is useful if you wish to read up on some of the exhibits later.
As you enter there is a skeleton of a blue whale, which spans the length of the entire hall. The most famous exhibit includes a pretty well preserved baby mammoth as well as a dinosaur skeleton. It may seem that the interior of the museum is slightly outdated, I however found that the skill with which some of the exhibits were put together is much more advanced then in some of the european museums.

I come from the UK where there are many 'natural history museums' of different types. Most are linked to universities or have an academic aspect. This is a museum full of stuffed or preserved animals. Some are displayed in tableau - polar bears fighting or penguins huddling. Many are in cabinets. In its day this must have been an awesome collection - every type of creature from around the world. But its 'day' was fifty years ago. There were lots of Russian school children and students visiting, but I wonder about the educational benefit (although that's not for me to judge - I was just visiting). Some specimens and examples are looking very sorry for themselves, and need a recondition. Even the mammoths - our main reason for going - were not as effectively displayed as I had hoped. Given then MANY things to see and do in St Petersburg I suggest this is a low priority, unless you specially like lots of stuffed animals!
