Reviews
We originally booked 2 nights and loved it so much we extended for another 2. Staying in a bamboo hut, we expected to be close to nature and didn’t mind seeing small lizards and insects around, which felt pretty normal for this kind of place.
However, after our second night we noticed one of our bags had been nibbled through, and the next morning found droppings in the bathroom. Staff initially suggested it was a lizard, but later confirmed it was rats. Sticky traps were put down, but the issue continued. We were shown alternative bungalows to sleep in, which unfortunately had even more droppings, not just in the bathrooms. The situation didn’t seem to be taken very seriously.
In the end, we were moved to the hostel next door for our final night. It’s a shame as we otherwise had a great stay – the place is quiet, well located, and the breakfast at Miss Island Restaurant is nice (we ate here most evenings too – the staff are lovely).
Hopefully the rat issue gets sorted for future guests.
No air conditioning but I sleep well and fresh.
After a sleepless night due to not being able to fall asleep due to constant itching (maybe bed bugs) which made me come out in a rash and the fear of the many cockroaches I saw, I was awoken at 3am to the sound of my partner yelling as he had just seen a rat. We then spent the rest of the night wide awake listening to the sound of it scurrying around in the roof section above our heads that it fled to after my partner spotting it on the floor.
I really wish we had seen reviews representing this and I just need to be transparent with our experience. We’ve booked a new accommodation immediately and are now just waiting to daylight so we can pack up and leave. If I’m being honest it’s not something that can be changed as it’s due to the nature of the building with the woven walls and holes around the structure.
Overall I guess the question is how much of the outdoors you’re happy with in your room with you. We’ve had geckos and cockroaches in our room in Thailand so far and although unsettling, it is manageable. However I do draw the line at rats.
Other notes:
The blankets are fluffy, we expected a thin sheet of a kind. I guess technically you don’t need a blanket in this heat but I do like to be covered by a sheet when I sleep as inevitably a mosquito will slip through and get me lol!
Another note which did actually provide some much needed comedic relief after zero hours sleep. At 5am the call to prayer occurs and the local dogs all join in and howl. Adorable yes, noisy also. You will probably wake up :) This aspect isn’t a complaint as you will get that by staying in any of the accommodation near here, but more of a note to bring some good sleeping ear plugs if you do decide to stay here!
The team was super nice, flexible and uncomplicated when we cancelled our booked trips due to the weather. Many thanks again!
Female-only dorm very badly arranged; little privacy and no space for things. Also means the air con freezes one person to death while a few others barely benefit. Will email hostel to suggest moving beds as there is space for everyone to have a good nights sleep
