Howard Johnson by Wyndham Scottsdale Old Town in Scottsdale

This truly is a 5 star budget hotel! Very professional, friendly, and thorough service from multiple staff. I called ahead to have my friend added to my reservation when my flight was delayed, and they were very accommodating. The water, coffee, juices, and fruits are a very helpful after a long flight or before a big day, as is the ease of check in/out. We took advantage of the well priced vending machines on premise. Regarding the room, it was very clean and with comfortable beds compared to others I have tried in this price range. The shower had very good pressure as well. Finally, the best thing about this hotel is the location--walking distance to most all of old town Scottsdale.

I have to admit, I have stayed here a number of times in the past few months with somewhat varying feelings. But my recent stay, which involved two rooms overnight, one for me and one for family members that were being moved from one senior residence to another, worked well, and was especially helped by Chantelle, at the desk, who seemed by luck to have the perfect kinds of interpersonal skills for dealing with elderly people. There was a problem with the clock in one of our rooms. Chantelle was able to clear the problem and to engage people in our party in a kind and helpful way. She also later, on checkout, seemed to take extra special care to assure they were properly clear of the room, not leaving anything. I bet it's just by luck that she was the person on duty for these things. It's not an advertised feature of the hotel. But it was a really big deal to us that she was so knowledgeable and kind and patient.

I stay here a couple times per year. I love this place. The hot tub and heated pool are so much fun. You can bring your own drinks and food in and relax all afternoon. The place is clean and always super friendly. You can walk to all the area attractions. I am super bummed to hear they are selling out. Losing this historic motel will be a great loss to Scottsdale.

One of my favorite hotels. The price is always lower than other hotels in the area. The location is perfect, centrally located and walking distance to the Fashion Mall, Old Town, many restaurants and night clubs. The rooms are always clean with comfy beds. I don't like the small pillows. Highly recommend

My family and I had a stay booked at Great Wolf and decided to drive out the night before, we stayed at Howard Johnson and it was perfect. In fact I like the setup of the room there more so than at our final destination. We had a two beds in the main room and a secondary small room with another bed. My teenager enjoyed having this space to himself. My oldest son said that he and my husband saw a sketchy character going into one of the rooms but we had no issues. I think at first the hotel looked a little dodgy. It appears to be an old motel with doors open to the outside that has been renovated a bit. For a quick one night stay it was perfect. The office staff was friendly and everything was clean. I enjoyed the nearby shops and restuarants that were all walking distance. I felt safe enough to walk to a local coffee shop in the early morning by myself. Overall I enjoyed and would stay again if needed.

Howard Johnson at Old Town Scottsdale is the ideal nomad and hipster hotel. For the price, it’s perfect. It’s simple, clean, and functional. A five minute walk from Old Town, Scottsdale its the perfect place to stay if you want to be in walking distance from restaurants, shopping, and art/museums as well as tourist hubs. It’s also located near the River Walk, which is about a 15 minute walk and a sight for tourists. There are numerous brunch spots along the way, making it an ideal brunch and gentle exercise outing before late morning and early afternoon temps soar (we are talking desert weather here). We really liked the Howard Johnson for its convenience and central location as well as its reasonable price. Highly recommend staying here in the late fall/winter/ early spring (not after May) because although they have AC the AC is not up to par for the summer months. We made the mistake of staying here in July when temps were about 120 in the day and 110 in the evening, our AC broke and we had to go in the pool to cool down. The hotel brought in box fans to try to cool down the room. Lesson learned, this is a better stay for the cooler months. Save the more expensive spots for the hot weather months and for the extended stays (more than a couple nights). Important to note that the bathrooms and rooms are clean , a big plus when staying in a motel vs. a hotel. Their walls are thin though so if they are not at capacity, ask for a room that is in the quieter wing or more spread out from neighbors (your beauty sleep will thank you for speaking up). The pool is modest and a hot tub as well. There are stairs (no elevator) so make sure to request ground floor when booking your stay if you cannot carry luggage up the stairs or take the stairs. We frequented this hotel for my medical stays at Sunridge when getting treatment for Lymes Disease. So we really appreciated the cost effective aspect in proportion to the frequency we visited the area to see my doctor.

Fantastic staff, fantastic location and standard rooms. Nice little breakfast and great lights in the evening around the pool! Free parking, free Wi-Fi and a fantastic location and staff is always appreciated!

Its a great place to go Managment is wonderful. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Great on your budget. Everything is in walking distance . Green machines are everywhere . Free continental breakfast. In the heart of old town scottsdale.
