We were given a bottom floor non view room. It had a view of a lovely hibiscus bush but behind was a large apartment building/parking lot. Plus= comfortable clean bed, bedding and linens. Towels smelled fresh. Very quiet at night. Room was clean and tidy. No bedbugs. We were not afraid and walked all over and around to coconut island in the dark! No problems. Minus=old, dated mossy building. 70s military...

Excellent location, Right on the water, It's a peaceful area surrounded by many gorgeous parks... The hotel itself is very old they should really take some of their earnings and revise it , It's owned by a semi-large Chinese family and then they take all the parking spots against the building and then the other parking spots are open to the guests, and then there's plenty of street parking, The rooms...

Very clean. Old school key to room. Parking is like playing tetris. I would walk around day only. Quiet so far, at least on the first floor. Feral cats running around don't bother me. Staff very nice, hard to hear sometimes, soft spoken. Price just OK, a little high for no elevator and no a/c.

Room itself is okay, it's very basic and bland. Hotel is in a good location however upon arrival the lady who checked us in was very unpleasant with a rude attitude. The WiFi in the room was so slow, slower than using my own data. Had I known it was going to be as horrible as it was, I wouldn't have stayed here. But overall the bed was comfortable and I guess that's all that really matters to them...

This hotel is clean. It's old and showing a lot of wear. No air conditioning but there's a ceiling fan and a floor stand fan. It works well if you leave your balcony door open, which felt questionable. This area probably used to be beautiful. There's a lot of things that make it feel run down and begging for a lot of TLC. Good value for an ocean view. Close walk to nearby restaurant. The lobby needs work,. The staff is friendly and our room had apartment size refrigerator, microwave and large sink. We didn't have a car so the location was walking distance to what we needed.

Pretty decent place, enjoyed the ocean view, probably the highlight, beautiful sunrises/sunsets and quiet! Easy to get into or around town and back, lots of parking, recommend parking on the lower level, the upper lot fills up. Basic amenities, no smart TV and it's small. Stayed for 5 days it was great! Some of reviews talk about towels in the hallway I found the staff gathered them and it wasn’t a big deal. View was great for ocean! Pricing I found to be good. Overall really enjoyed the stay!

She rooms were big and spacious. We had ants in our room. So they want you to have the trash bag close outside the door. The air conditioner was load and hard to fix. But, the facility was beautiful. Close to gardens and coconut island. The location is beautiful I enjoyed looking at the old trees and volcanic rocks.

World class! It’s more like a resort than a hotel. Ocean views were incredible because well it’s on the beach! Hilo is great, the more relaxing side of Hawaii and talk about green and lush! Restaurant food is was commendable as well. Most very thing is within walking distance. The cruise ship stops nearby on Tuesdays so that is fun to watch. The breakfast and brunch buffet was amazing! Definitely worth going again. The staff was very helpful and nice and was able to help my needs.

The Inn at Kulaniapia Falls

We booked a day pass to the waterfall and were greeted by Ken. He was wonderful and gave us a short history of the location. We had a 10 min hike down to the waterfall and lake and it was both beautiful and awe inspiring. It was like we were in a different world. Voyage to the middle of the earth kind of feel. The inn keeper and staff were delightful, helpful and professional. The setting is profoundly magical and if you time it right you can have your own private waterfall to enjoy with no one around. Our room was nicely appointed and the lanai had a view of the waterfall - par none! We will definitely recommend to our friends seeking a restful, memorable visit.

Wow! What a great 3 hrs at the falls. Easy to book add on items when you get down there too. Great restrooms for folks going to the falls only. I guess it was so nice we left my son’s favorite hat! Ah well, great time.

We stayed in the cabins and they were more than expected. If you’re ok with a camping type stay this is basically that but better! The views and the nature sounds are amazing! I thoroughly enjoyed the outdoor shower and the common areas were very clean. The staff were very helpful and friendly. After spending two fun filled weeks on the Kohala side of the island, we stayed for 3 nights in a room at the Inn at Kulaniapia Falls, overlooking the waterfall! The sound was hypnotizing. We sat out on the balcony at different times, morning, afternoon, evening and late at night to enjoy the view. At night the stars are incredible! Fantastic location and chilled vibe. We loved coming back at the end of a day and taking a swim in the rock pool at the bottom of the waterfall. Lovely walks in the garden and quiet spots to sit were great too.

Cynthia was a friendly host, she made us feel very comfortable and provided good suggestions on where to eat. Also upgraded us to a larger room free of charge. The property was clean and rooms are spacious. It was good to have access to a fridge and cooking facilities if needed. Location was good, especially if you have a car.

This is a very relaxed place to stay. Very clean. Cynthia is very easy going. It is NOT like a normal hotel though. Show up with an Aloha spirit and it's perfect. Take your shoes off. 😉

What a lovely place to stay! Cynthia was so friendly and made us feel very welcome. Reservation and check-in was uncomplicated. We stayed in one of the small downstairs suites and it had all we needed for two nights. We had a great time and would recommend anyone staying in Hilo to consider Shaka Shak!

Cynthia made our trip so amazing! She made maps of the island with great places to eat and everywhere we had to visit! There were places we did not even know about! Her house had such good energy as well!! The price is beyond fair and you will feel so comfortable!! So so recommend!!!!!

Great place to stay! I was only looking for 2 nights however I liked it so much I extended to 4 nights. Host was really nice and the place was clean. Large kitchen with use of the fridge/freezer. Bedrooms are equipped with very nice fans. Backyard was nice to sit and relax under the bamboo and orange tree. I was traveling on my own but next time I will bring my gf and stay at the Shaka Shak. I have already visited the two locations of shake shack garden..for what it has to offer complementary breakfast in the morning...used of the kitchen to cook..a beautiful scenery of the volcano and landscape waoo!.. awesome service towards your needs and wants... room and board excellent for the price.. definitely recommend it!... thanks Cynthia and Natasha!

The owners of this property have thought of it all. The moment you walk through this open concept estate, you immediately feel the calm and love. The air smells of lavender. You can hear the calming water just below. They set up the kitchen and other rooms with arrangements of flowers and a guidebook to help you get the most of your stay there, they even have a bag of chargers just in case you need...

Pretty nice place, staff was very friendly, the lady who cleaned the kitchen allowed me to come back after the kitchen had closed so I could get my clothes out of the drier, and the staff made an effort to strike up conversations and be personal. I had a good stay there!

First, something I really didn’t appreciate is how the staff will opt to kick you out at check out. I had to argue to stay to get a little more work done before leaving, but I paid for my night and I was literally the only one in the building, it’s not like I had taken up someone’s space. I found this to be rude enough for me not to stay here again. I was also told that prior to “officially” checking...

Nice location downtown, the lady at reception was welcoming and pleasant. Interesting building, would have preferred it being more clean or modern for the cost compared to other hostels on the island but overall it was a good experience.
