The Breakfast was good. I wish that it was a of a meal experience with couples sitting together at a large table promoting interaction. I thought that if given an opportunity I think that folks that were there would choose to be more social as opposed to treating the stay like if they were at a hotel. It was nice to have coffee available throughout the day.

It was an exceptional experience at the 1889 White Gate Inn. All of the rooms on the main level (entry foyer, living room, dining room & sun room) are just beautiful. They are decorated in a way that you feel you are stepping into a magazine. The Dorothy Parker Room was charming. The gardens are magnificent. The morning breakfasts were delicious and the table was elegantly set. It was nice to sit at a large table and have the opportunity to chat with other guests. The afternoon social hour was also a really nice touch. Frank, Matt, Kyle and Susan as well as the rest of the staff were very attentive and made us feel welcome.

So glad we stumbled upon Whitegate Inn! I recommend to those looking for a quaint, relaxing, charming B&B close enough to walk to the downtown action but far enough for a quiet stay.
We stayed in the Emily Dickinson suite. It was cute, comfortable, and spacious enough with its sitting area separate from the bedroom. The sitting area provided enough space for us to set up a couples massage in room, which our hosts helped to book for us.
I was so impressed with the attention to detail that made our stay cozy and enjoyable. Breakfast was delicious both mornings. The inn often smelled liked baked goods. We did not deny ourselves the homemade chocolate chip cookies left as a snack for the taking in the cookie jar. ☺️
The surrounding gardens added to the charm. They even offer you to take a few clippings from their garden in a mini vase.
Ultimately, I would definitely consider returning and plan to recommend to friends and family!

Great place! Cozy rooms with beautiful decor, a fireplace or two, spacious bathroom with a jacuzzi,. Staff was very helpful, and the grounds are very nice with lovely plants and areas to relax., It's walking distance from many restaurants and shops, but off the beaten path enough that it feels like a private oasis. There's a solarium to get a snack, play the piano, read a book, or just have friendly chats with other patrons. When we revisit Asheville, I definitely want to stay here again..

We stayed three nights at the guest cottage. Nice private space separate from the inn. Breakfast was delicious and there was a refrigerator with an assortment of bottled beverages we could take while exploring Asheville! Stephen was an amazing host who made sure we had everything we needed and even offered to book us another night if we wanted! Highly recommend if you want a private lodging with first class service within walking distance of downtown Asheville!

Stayed here for our honeymoon in one of the cottages. It was clean and inviting, the staff was friendly and the breakfast was delicious and varied each morning! Highly recommend! Only a 10 minute walk or less to downtown Asheville but you would never know it once you're inside the oasis that is 1889 Whitegate.

Check-in was easy and smooth. Drinks and snacks were waiting for you. SaraBeth was very friendly and welcoming. The cottage suite was fabulous. We loved having a sitting room. Breakfast was light and very good. Juice, coffee and soft drinks were available. Room and bed was clean and comfortable. Check-out was very easy. It is located very close to downtown.
Wonderful stay for two nights, would definitely stay there again.

I loved our visit ! I was thoroughly impressed with our room! I loved the privacy of the carriage house! It was so quaint and cozy. Really surpassed our expectations. Very clean, location is great, warm and inviting and great amenities! Frank and Ralph were very nice and quite charming. We even tried to stay another night but It was booked so we stayed somewhere else for another night and I truly was sort of “ homesick” for our room there :/. I just loved it and will def be back!!!!!!

My family wanted to do a short trip to Asheville after Christmas and rather than stay at a hotel, we did some looking online and found White Gate Inn. What a lucky find! The house is absolutely gorgeous, and the staff very welcoming, especially the owners. We loved the social hour shortly after check in so that we weren’t starving by the time we went for dinner in town. The beds were very comfortable, and there were fireplaces in 2/3 rooms that kept us warm through the night. Breakfast was absolutely delicious! I was full, but would have been ready to do it all over again. If we had been able to get more time off, we would have loved to stay another night!

We were very disappointed, as we expected more of this stay.
Breakfast is touted as a wonderful experience, not so. I do not like cold scrambled eggs on rice or on an untoasted bagel. I do not want store bought pumpkin pie or zucchini bread with ice cream for breakfast.
I was told our room was not cleaned, bed made etc. because the door was locked from the inside. How is that possible if we were not in the room and if we were there wouldn't we have heard the housekeeper at the door? And then still no one came to clean the room!
Also, it snowed, we know you are not used to snow but you could have at least brushed off the outside stairs for your guests. Or maybe even brushed a path to our suite. Parking lots at the other inn across the street were cleared. Ours was treacherous!
We have stayed in many lovely B and B's unfortunately this is not one of them.
Not to sound trite but I do not think the innkeeper is inspecting what he expects.

We stayed at the Whitegate for a couple of much needed days of rest and relaxation. The property is lovely and in a great location, close to downtown but not right in the middle of all the noise! It was peaceful and welcoming. Frank and Ralph are wonderful hosts and breakfast was delicious. We started each morning with a game of chess in the living room and then headed about our day. We will definitely return when we head to the mountains again.
