Newport Inn By OYO - Hwy 101 in Newport

This place will catfish you with pictures. They will not also tell you the amount of homeless people in and out that look like drug addicts. They won’t also tell you that they are a live in hotel as well. People actually live there in the back and some in the front rooms. I booked with bookings. Let me say I drove 4 hours to enjoy the aquarium with my best friend and our two babies who are two years old. We go to check in and people would stare at us, you walk up the stairs and looked down one of the hallways had trash along the whole thing. Stuff thrown everywhere. As a mom we got out of there as checking out from the three hours we were gone we walked down stairs with our babies. Homeless dude or whoever it was had two big dogs off the leash that looked like they were off the street walked in front of our kids. I told him to put the dogs back on the leash. He then replied “they’re cool” I yelled and so no they aren’t there’re kids around. Overall a horrible experience and hope they take this place off. I wouldn’t even rate this. In my book -100

Reservation made using the Expedia TAAP website for the Hotel Newport Inn by OYO on June 17th. A confirmation was received via email from Expedia. Shortly after, a confirmation was also received via email from the hotel.
Upon arrival at the hotel on the date of check in, I was informed that no reservation existed under my name or confirmation numbers. While at the hotel front desk, I phoned the customer service line for Expedia. The agent asked to speak to the hotel desk clerk, provided her with a confirmation number, and was also informed that there was no such reservation and nothing that she could do about it.
The Expedia agent attempted to contact someone at the intermediary booking company (TravelNow) between Expedia and the hotel. No one answered. The Expedia agent then came back on the line with me and said he would send an email to TravelNow to request resolution.
At this point, I was without a hotel room, on a holiday weekend, with children. I got lucky enough to find another hotel room - for 4 1/2 times the price.
On July 8th, I received a response from TravelNow with a denial for my request for a refund.
I did not attempt to cancel the reservation at any point. I did appear at the hotel at the time of my reservation. I did receive multiple confirmations that I had a reservation. I paid the full amount owed at the time the reservation was made. I was told I did not have a reservation. I was not provided the service in which I paid for and was told was confirmed.
A complaint has been filed with the BBB.

The room was in poor condition at best. Pictures looked good but, the walls were had a bunch of damaged paint, tile was coming up. The door looked like someone recently broke in. The front desk didn’t have anyone and only came when you called. I had booked 2 nights in booking.com and was told the hotel could allow me to not have to stay the second night, but the manager refused. I’d highly recommend a different hotel.

The only positive part of this stay was the woman working the front desk and her family. They were incredibly kind and welcoming. Unfortunately, everything else about this place was extremely disappointing.

When we arrived, we immediately noticed that many of the people on the property appeared to be long-term residents. Normally that wouldn’t be an issue, but the environment felt sketchy and uncomfortable.

We booked this motel through Booking.com because the photos showed clean, updated rooms. What we walked into was nothing like the pictures. As soon as we entered the room, we were hit with a strong chemical smell that made my head hurt and my throat burn. The bedding looked dirty and very cheap. We had originally booked a king bed but were told upon arrival that only a room with two queens was available.

One of the bed headboards looked torn off, and the floors had a strange film over them. Overall, the room felt poorly maintained and nothing like what was advertised online.

We ended up leaving and considered driving the three hours back home because OYO is known for not issuing refunds and we were already out nearly $200. Thankfully, we found a last-minute Airbnb in a better area for a similar price, and it was clean and comfortable.

I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere

Fire alarms were covered with some kind of gum so it couldn’t detect smoke, coners of the bathroom and room had years of dirt caked into them, bathroom floors were sticky. I didn’t even want to sleep under the covers I was so disgusted. The hallways smelt like cat pee.(probably meth) There’s was people living in the hotel full time.
Carbon detectors were beeping so they need new batteries. No screen or extra stick or security in the windows! And I was smelling ‘cat pee’ coming through the window!! So we couldn’t sleep because of the detectors and having the window cracked was not safe!!
The refrigerator wasn’t even cold, water damage on the furniture (even tho they said it was remodeled) no tv or dvd player to give entertainment.
Don’t get me started about the door locks on this hotel! The batteries were showing with electrical showing!!!!
They had a car air freshener in the room that smelled horrible! If they cleaned the room properly they wouldn’t need air fresheners!
Horrible rooms and will never stay there again even if they paid me!

I spoke to a lady on the phone that assured me that this hotel was very clean and had comfortable rooms. We arrived at the Inn and checked in, parked in the back lot and proceeded to get our luggage. We felt very uncomfortable when we got out of the car to see people barbecuing in the parking lot who looked rather sketchy. Then we walked up the stairs to find a door opened next to our room with a man laying on the bed with his box fan in the doorway. There were a lot of people walking up and down the stairs and in the corridors. My family and I were all very disappointed as the room was very small and hard to even walk around the beds. The side chair looked very soiled and no one wanted to sit there. The two small closets had no bars to hang our clothes. There was no carpet on the floors and that made us feel uncomfortable walking barefooted. We found specs of food on our blankets which made us feel very anxious. There was no air conditioning in the room, just one small box fan and no place to set it up without tripping over it. At this point we were very reluctant to stay at this hotel. Needless to say none of us slept very well that night. I would never recommend the Newport Inn by OYO to anyone. This was not a reasonable price for a room of this caliber. I will not give this hotel even a one star rating. On our way back through Newport heading home we found the Comfort Inn in Newport and it had an ocean view for $229.36. Now that was a much better deal all around with a much nicer hotel which was very clean.

So I booked online through Priceline. And after driving to Newport from hours away I went to check in and the guy at the front desk looked up my name and then said oh your reservation was canceled and made it seem like it was my fault somehow. So I left and checked my emails and my bank account and saw that I was charged for the room and my email from 5 minutes before asking how my check in was. So I went back in and showed this to the front desk guy who then proceeded to get mad and raise his voice and pick up his computer monitor and yell that they are booked so bye you need to just leave! I have never had a hotel treat me so rude in my life. I had to call Priceline and they informed me I do have a room and it was never canceled they called the property for me and could not get through I had my money refunded but it takes up to 15 days. So I had to find a last minute hotel and pay more money. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone! They need to do something about their front desk people and their customer service! I would give zero stars if I could!
