Mays Hotel- Ben Thanh in Ho Chi Minh

I had one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had with a hotel. My partner and I had booked our stay in advance, and the hotel had been messaging my partner all day asking what time we would be arriving. So we were shocked when we got there and the receptionist told us there were no rooms available.
My partner asked how this was even possible when they had been in contact with us all day, yet the receptionist had no real explanation. Instead, they told us they would arrange a room for us at another hotel. We didn’t want another hotel we wanted the one we had already booked and confirmed.
When they couldn’t provide us with the room we paid for, they offered to order a taxi to bring us to the other hotel. The whole situation felt extremely sketchy. I was nervous and uncomfortable, and the taxi took nearly 20 minutes to arrive.
When we reached the second hotel, things got even worse.
We asked to see the room before signing anything or making any payment, but the receptionist refused and demanded we sign documents first. We made it clear that under no circumstances would we sign anything until we saw the room.
We eventually managed to see it and honestly, it was disgusting. The bed sheets were filthy, the carpet was dirty, and the whole place looked totally neglected. It felt like a complete scam, just like the first hotel.
Do NOT book at either of these hotels.
There are mysteriously no reviews online showing the actual condition of these places. We even tried leaving a review on Booking.com, but it wouldn’t allow us because we didn’t stay the night which explains why so many people don’t know what they’re walking into.
This entire experience was stressful, unprofessional, and unacceptable from start to finish.

Systematic Fraud! Four-Hour Wait and Questionable Methods

Beware of this hotel! What we experienced here appears to be a deliberate scam: First, our passports were photographed for check-in. Just a few minutes later, we were suddenly told there were problems with the rooms and redirected to the affiliated "May Hotel."

Once there, we discovered we weren't the only ones—another couple ahead of us had the exact same problem. It's clearly a scam to lure guests to another hotel under false pretenses.

We had to wait four hours and were only allowed to check in after officially informing Booking.com customer service. The staff also demanded that we cancel the original booking but pay the full price on-site. Under no circumstances should you cancel yourself, as this will incur penalty fees.

This hotel is a complete scam. First of all, the hotel has a different name on booking.com than here on google, red flag. Second, the hotel wrote to us several times asking for us to reconfirm our booking, we of course confirmed, but when we came to the hotel, they did not have a room available for us even though they wanted to reconfirm earlier on the day??? Third, the hotel staff was trying to make us leave without getting our money back as we had prepaid. We only saw the entrance hall, so can’t comment on the rooms. But there were wires everywhere in the entrance hall, like the hotel wasn’t finished. Do NOT book this unless you want to take a risk.

Beyond its proximity to the Malaysian market, this place offers absolutely no value for money and terrible service. It looks and smells like it's covered in mold, and there are ants everywhere.
