Reviews
It is seldom that one encounters an establishment so woefully indifferent to even the most basic tenets of hospitality, yet Hôtel José has managed to set a new nadir. From the moment of arrival, one is met not with the faintest flicker of welcome, but rather an impersonal brusqueness bordering on outright hostility. A taciturn figure, apparently a relic of the hotel’s neglected past, gestured vaguely with a Gallic “allez-y,” as though we were interlopers to be hurried along rather than guests to be received.
Upon crossing the threshold of the so-called breakfast room, the full measure of neglect became instantly apparent. The chamber itself was redolent of years of accumulated indifference, cluttered with battered, sticky tables scarcely fit for use and the sort of dreary décor that only a chronic lack of cleaning can achieve. The buffet, if one could so dignify it, offered a lamentable tableau of neglect and miserliness. The bread was stale, desiccated, and of the lowest conceivable quality. A pitiful plate of overripe, forgotten fruit languished at the edge of the spread, flanked by sweating, supermarket-grade cheese and a few wan slices of processed ham, all of which had clearly spent far too long at room temperature.
Matters deteriorated further with the presence of high-fat, saccharine yoghurt – left entirely without refrigeration – alongside a tin of canned fruit, limp and unappetising, and a cereal dispenser that, being broken, dispensed nothing at all. The sole attempt at hot food consisted of a reeking chafing dish containing pallid, powdery scrambled eggs swimming in congealed fat and accompanied by bacon of such low grade and greasy provenance that even the hungriest guest would hesitate.
As for the coffee, the machine yielded only a noxious, cloudy, milk-coloured liquid, presumably in place of the beverage it purported to serve. Every surface, utensil, and vessel was marked by grime and the sort of greasy patina that can only come from years of neglect and a complete absence of pride in one’s work.
In the end, it was all so offensively squalid that we did what any sensible person would do: abandoned the sordid scene without touching a morsel. I can only conclude, with a sense of genuine relief, that this decision spared us from an inevitable bout of food poisoning.
Hôtel José’s breakfast is not merely poor – it is an outright health hazard and an affront to the very concept of hospitality. Avoid at all costs.
Everything is cheap and poor quality.
Stairs are steep and last floor not finished.
Corridors are very narrow.
View from room is a wall.
Poor breakfast - terrible coffee.
Room was good for me and kids, with very nice bathroom
Breakfast was nice
Breakfast is very good an again the personal touch.
The entrance is not yet renovated but honestly there more stars here!
The room was taken good care of in cleaning and we had what we needed in towels. The shower wash had a great smell and the water pressure was great. If you turned the water up to high it did go all over the bathroom so I keep it lower no problem my second point is the shower was very Slippery I almost fell multiple times.
The bathroom was big and clean and had a nice look to it.
The chairs in the room and the window set up was very nice and cozy. I loved sitting in the sun there. The coffee and tea in the room were tasty and good favored. You can tell the hotel takes alot of proud in there rooms how clean and comfortable they are. The hotel is in a older building that is true but that just adds to the charm of the place in my view.
The problem in the room was the fridge it was very loud when it turned on and made a lot of noise and would wake me up. The street is very busy and is loud but I expected this so no problem.
The breakfast was good with lots to offer. Friendly people in the hotel were everywhere. Eggs were very tasty and the different products of meat, cheese, yogurt, fruit, and bread were lovely and made breakfast wonderful. They had all kinds of drinks to offer which was also impressive.
