Gervasoni Hotel Boutique in Valparaiso

The highlights of the hotel were not in the hotel itself... it was in the location. It was in a great location in Valparaiso that was easily walkable to most things. The view from both the room and the patio were incomparable. What lowered the score were several factors: 1. The room was extremely noisy from the street even with the doors and windows closed; 2. The room was very hot (no A/C) so the doors and windows had to be open at night and there were no fans; 3. The bathroom was small, had no fan, and the ceiling was so low that you had to hunch over to get under the shower head; and 4. there were a lot of bugs in the room. It should also be noted that in our room the bathroom was ensuite but down a spiral staircase in the room. The building has controlled access and so if the front desk person stepped away (as happened several times) you have to wait outside until they come back.

This hotel is in a very good location. It has charm and character. The staff could be a bit better. The male at the front desk was the most helpful. We got there before 3 which is check in time and our room was not ready so we rested for a while in the hotel, then went out till 3. There are a lot of stairs at this hotel and no elevator. We had a nice room, however it was quite noisy and it wasn’t the hotel that was noisy, it was the surrounding area. Also. i thought the bathroom was a bit dangerous. We had a shower tub combination but with the piece of glass they way it was, was kind of hard to get in and out of it. I also don’t care to reach behind me for toilet paper. The bathroom seemed awkward to me. I would not recommend this hotel for a person that has trouble walking or climbing stairs. I didn’t find anything special about this hotel but the location is good.
