Great hotel, good location and a delicious breakfast.

Stayed in this hotel as part of an OnFoot holiday. Despite its slightly austere look from the outside this is a beautiful hotel with friendly staff and a quality interior. The rooms are superb, the pool and self service bar are excellent. We had Breton the hotel which was very nice. Nearby restaurants in Turnov are great value

We stayed here for one night as part of a walking trip. The initial impression was of a pre-opening up, (what I presume to be like a Cold War feel). The site and entrance were pretty unimpressive; however there are some quality aspects to the hotel. Staff was efficient and friendly, note that the desk is not manned after 22:00, and entrance is with a punch-in code-lock to the hotel entrance and one’s room. The rooms were a tad small for a couple. Spotlessly clean rooms, clean sheets. Beds were very nice (we got a twin rather than a double). Shower was excellent, but tiny. Again, spotlessly clean. No air conditioning, small fridge, but unsure if it worked, didn’t cool much. Food: restaurant was closed, no food/drinks available (unsure if it was temporary or a permanent measure as older reviews from 2023 also mention this). Older reviews for the restaurant were good but unable to comment. Breakfast, like everything else was good, efficient and on the spot. Lovely breads. Did not meet our ratings of the other six hotels we stayed as part of this holiday. Overall, functional, and caters to needs rather than wants. Covers the need of a walking holiday adequately, possibly not for a longer stay/family holiday.

A lot was good here though it was rather depressing on first sight. A definite Cold War feel to the decor. Internet was strong, and there was useful tourism information in the room. The windows opened for fresh air, hot water was good. The shower was a bit splashy but the towels were nice and robes were provided. The minibar was empty (always a disappointment) and the restaurant was closed for dinner, with nothing close by. Breakfast was good, bread was fresh , there was proper orange juice not watered down!

We visited as part of an organized walking tour. Our room was quite basic and the beds were very very firm. We found them hard to sleep in. We were cheerfully provided with extra pillows on request - and a kettle. The swimming pool looked lovely but was freezing cold - as was the adjacent hot tub. There was a reasonable choice of things for breakfast and an excellent coffee machine. All the staff that we interacted with were very nice.

The Hotel Karel is a step above average, but only barely so. The rooms are small but clean; the bathrooms are small but clean; the shower is tiny. The hosted breakfast was also average, with but a few staples to get you through the day. One feature that stood out: the very nice swimming pool out behind the parking lot. This was a nice refreshment on a hot day.

Disappointing basic hotel. Stayed sat and Sunday. On Sunday they serve breakfast then all staff go home. No drinks, nowhere to sit, no service of any kind. We slept OK sat night but Sunday night very badly. Our room at the back overlooked the car park which is in use Monday morning by local vans, businesses etc. They started coming in to park from just after 5.30 am. They all chat and shout at each other without thinking about hotel guests. Impossible to sleep. Also sun wakes you - very thin curtains. Breakfast OK - a buffet. But this really is not a hotel, just a b & b. Cannot understand why they would lock guests out of dining/seating area and the patio. And with not even a vending machine for drinks. It is 15 min walk to nearest bar as on the edge of town. It must get the hotel status from having a pool but there is no shade or parasols - just loungers and no pool towels. We would rate it 2 stars only. Incidentally it is key code entry, for front door and rooms - did not feel very secure. No safe in the rooms so we kept our valuables on us all the time.

we rate the restaurant. very tasty food. Aromatic tea Pickwick Smooth Gray. small selection when it comes to vegetarian dishes, but grilled hermelin is tasty. the method of giving hermelin depends on the cook. once I was eating a delicious plate full of salads and another ... well. the pictures reflect everything. pizza from the wood-fired oven is delicious. for hungry meateaters, we recommend Bramborak with goulash. Tasty!
