Reviews
The payment attempt was taken at 9.30pm less than half an hour before our arrival. I have never had a reference of that and to my knowledge is not a valid universal decline code.
I was told that I could rebook again, but it was more expensive. The man at reception denied this and was again rude. I was exhausted and close to tears and being put on the spot, I initially couldn’t find the email with the original price and just wanted myself and my children in our room so paid.
The room was old, tired, and the bunk bed creaked so badly my teenage son slept in our bed two out of the three nights.
Our air con didn’t work, but we could hear next doors clearly all night.
The next morning the maid knocked and asked to clean, I asked if she could come back later but I think she didn’t understand, she didn’t come back that day or the next. On the third day of our trip I requested the room was cleaned. One bed was made and the bathroom bin was emptied.
The bunkbed wasn’t made, no new sheets were ever given and the damp towels and toilet roll weren’t replaced. I had to go down to reception that night to ask for more towels and toilets roll from another unfriendly receptionist. Despite this I thanked her.
Outside of the room, the corridor smelled of smoke and the lift and communal areas were tired and just grim and it was all grey or stained/broken. I have never experienced such a depressing hotel. I stay frequently with ibis for work and have stayed in many ibis budgets and they have been great. This was awful. Given how little I was listened to the two times I spoke to reception staff, I felt it was pointless to address any further issues whilst there and when we left early this morning I just posted my keys in the box
Having stayed in Ibis Budgets in other countries, I found it from a comparable quality and good for the price. The furniture (double bed with bank bed on top) and desk is the typical one for these hotels. There are no wardrobes or shelves, only a few hangers. The size was for me normal. I've stayed in much smaller, more expensive places (e.g. in Paris). In short, no comfort, but a solid, cheap place to stay. The breakfast was also not that bad, given the price. Little variety and not the highest quality, but did its job. Also the personnel that was on duty during my stay was polite.
If you are looking for fancy, this is not your place, but for a short stay in a well-located area it is ideal.
As an additional comment it is noted that leaving the luggage is not free. It was 2 Euros the piece, but also that's OK compared to lockers and other luggage services.
