Hotel Schauinsland in Bad Peterstal-Griesbach

We had an amazing weekend here with the family including our dog. We were greeted by a cute dog when we arrived. Then Ingolf went out of his way to make our experience great. He made us a big bowl of pasta since we were hungry from traveling. He even played fussball with our daughter, so my husband and I could enjoy breakfast together the next morning. If you want true German hospitality, this is it!

This hotel can not be reviewed in the usual way. I am giving rooms and service a straight four and the location a five. I also know that other visitors might disagree.

And this is where it gets interesting. If you are looking for a regular hotel, normal room- and front desk service, then you might be disappointed.

But if you have an open mind, and enjoy the creative aspect of this ongoing experiment in sustainability and alternative hospitality, then this is for you.

The host turns out to be a musician and songwriter, and he might play his creations during breakfast. Parts of the hotel have become some sort of 70s and 80s throwback museum and the owner will be delighted to show you around if you ask him to.

Sustainability is a complex issue and if you enjoy a conversation with the host, you will learn more about the managements vision for the hotel. I found myself agreeing with the hosts ideas, though I still have many questions about the way the front office is functioning.

The view from our room was stunning, especially the early morning is enchanting when fog slowly rises from the hills as the sun is rising. And as a dog owner its a big plus that my two Shiba Inus were included in the price.

The owners definitely manage to leave a personal impression and their approach to finding a new way to host guests sustainably was very much part of our conversations when we stayed there.

And thats why this is a four for service and room, and a five for location for me. But why not go and find out for yourself?

We booked 2 double rooms - very big rooms and pristine clean.
Splendid service with owner himself involved and available most of time and putting eye for details for a great experience for all guests.
Great location with very nice views, super nice breakfast.
Ideal location for hikes, and within short driving distance to Europa-Park, Zip-Lines, Cuckoo Clock and many other places.
Enjoyed a lot !

The Hotel is very wonderful, remind me old viking style that locate in beautiful "Black forrest", the food is included and very tasty.

Very beautiful scenery, amazing atmosphere. It’s very quiet during the night. Rooms were big and comfortable. However, the windows and balcony did not haveThe iron fence for the bugs ( dunno what’s it called) so we had A bit of an incident with bugs.

Somewhat older hotel with a great view of the valley. staff very friendly. Could do with a major refurbishment, with some paint and new wood this could be a big upgrade. Wellness area small but pleasant. Breakfast completely sufficient. Town center within walking distance, as well as various hiking trails.

Great starting point for hikes on beautiful premium hiking trails directly from the hotel. Use of the sauna and indoor pool is uncomplicated after consultation. We had two days of sauna and bath to ourselves. Friendly welcome and service The view from the room and restaurant is fantastic. The equipment is getting old, but everything is there and in good condition (in the truest sense of living sustainability). And we were individually cooked vegetarian or vegan, what a gift. We'd love to come back.

Living like 40 years ago, old but clean! Relaxed interaction between staff and guests, low prices! Gladly again, with a great view of the village.
