HYPERION Hotel Basel in Basel

I stayed at the Hyperion Hotel in Basel and came away disappointed, particularly given the price point.

The location is a positive. Situated just off Klara, the hotel is well placed for exploring the city, and parking options are generally good if you are travelling by car. I would strongly recommend booking a space directly under the hotel, as this is by far the most convenient option.

Unfortunately, the check-in experience was poor. There were not enough staff to manage the volume of guests, resulting in unnecessary delays. Once at the desk, the service was perfunctory—no explanation of the hotel’s facilities, amenities, or even basic orientation on where things are. This made the arrival feel transactional rather than welcoming.

The room itself was small. While the bathroom was modern and well finished, the room temperature was uncomfortably high and could not be adjusted. Additionally, there were no tea or coffee-making facilities in the room, which is a notable omission at this price level.

Overall, for the money paid, this hotel does not represent good value. That said, it has real potential: the location is strong and the property itself is well maintained. With meaningful investment in staffing levels and customer service, it could be a very good hotel—but in its current form, it falls short.

Charge us additional charges TWICE which we were not informed of prior to check in despite ensuring in advance. Staff were not helpful and quite clueless about why we were double charged. Booked double person room and charged for second person to stay despite informing in advance it would be two people. Just terrible.
