Hotel Restaurant Schiff in Kappel-Grafenhausen

Disappointing experience.

We had booked a table for 8 people on Sunday, November 9. Coming from Luxembourg and visiting the region, this dinner was meant to be an opportunity for us to discover authentic German cuisine.

Our reservation was for 8:00 p.m. — we even arrived a little early.
Our waitress, a young blonde lady, didn’t seem very enthusiastic that evening.
We ordered drinks and food; everything arrived at the table, and the food was truly delicious!

Unfortunately, it was impossible to order additional drinks. We had to ask three times for “one beer and one Coke”, which finally arrived once our plates were already empty.

The clearing of the table was disastrous — one plate removed every ten minutes (even though we had stacked them to make things easier). We were left waiting for a very long time with a half-cleared table, while our waitress was chatting with her coworkers.

We would have liked to order dessert, but given our waitress’s lack of motivation, we quickly realized that we were simply a nuisance.
When it came time to pay, we asked: What was the problem with our table? Why were other guests who arrived later able to have their meal and dessert and leave before us? Why did no one bother to clear our table?

The waitress’s response summed up her entire service: “You’re not happy with the service? Well, it’s already late — you should have come earlier.”
It was exactly 9:30 p.m. when we paid. Unbelievable.

A minimum of emotional intelligence would have been appreciated. Had our table been cleared in a timely manner, we would easily have saved 30 to 45 minutes.
If it’s no longer possible to order after a certain hour, common sense would suggest informing guests before taking their order (or even before accepting the reservation).
And if one has no desire to work in a service-oriented job, it might be better to refrain from doing so.

This is not a judgment — merely an observation.

Very bad service with the blond lady, better for her to do another job ! At least food was good. We are still waiting for this lady to ask us for desert. Of course it is better to drink and eat during service 🫣
