Douskos Guesthouse in Hydra

Beautiful room with a balcony and sea view. Ideal location near the harbor. Spacious, simply decorated  with plates and glasses. Very clean. Great place to stay!

We arrived to find the place deserted. There was a number to call at the reception but no one responded. We later learned this was the “summer number”. Finally we went to the shop next door and the shopkeeper called the owner who contacted the housekeeper. After wasting 3 hours of our half day in Hydra we finally got our room. It was very basic. Very expensive for what we got.

We very much enjoyed our stay here. There are several properties under the same management (you go to another one by the harbour for breakfast), and we felt this one suited us best. It's a convenient location, yet away from the majority of the noise, and the room was spacious and modern, yet in an older building. Breakfast, as mentioned, is in a different location, with an amazing view of the harbour, not to be missed. I don't really have any criticisms at all, when we had issues or questions, they were addressed, and sorted. This just felt like an all round good option, and we'd definitely stay here again.

Our only negative issue was the long walk and steep stairway to reach the breakfast area. It was in a different building 5 minutes away. Some may think it good morning exercise.

This place was quite lovely for a 3 star hotel. The check in service was friendly and helpful with navigating the island, and we had help with our luggage up the stairs (thank you!). Great location - very close to the port. We had a small balcony and the amenities were good - kettle and mini bar fridge to make a cup of tea in the morning. The bed was probably what made this place 3 star, but in saying that, for the price, I would recommend this place to stay.

Ioanna was a great host who provided great information and was a great host. The beach house was very clean and had everything we needed. The location was wonderful. The roof top breakfast was outstanding. The views from the roof top was excellent. Great location and excellent staff.

Location was perfect. No climb at all. Staff were so lovely, especially Angeliki who was helpful, funny and friendly. Her recommendations were spot on and were perfect for our visit. The room was great, we even had a balcony! The swimming towels were a great bonus! I will be back!!

We loved Duskos Guest House. The hotel is small and our room was charming. We had a view of the harbor where we could watch the yachts and fishing boats coming and going as well as all the action on the street. Breakfast on the rooftop terrace had an equally stunning view. Juliette, the manager, was super helpful and accommodating and was kind enough to let me practice speaking Greek. We would absolutely recommend this hotel if you are looking for character and charm!

Delightful stay. Thank goodness the guest house had easy access to the port, no climb up and up through the lanes to where some accommodation is situated. I’d say rooms 1 and 2 might be the best. Room 4 was great, but there’s a lot of activity in the lane below, great to watch from the window, but can be noisey. Dafni was fabulous, as was Julietta, so helpful and obliging, I’d love to stay there again. Breakfast is in another premise on the port, lots of steps (but this is Hydra) but once up there the view is magnificent; we loved it. Everything about Hydra is wonderful and Douskos is a good place to enjoy it.
