Khan Tengri Hotel in Naryn

On the outside this place looks great. Unfortunately maintenance is not great. Our room had a faulty light. So out of 2 only one worked or if they left the second one connected it bright flashed all night. The bathroom tiling is degrading, this will leak onto the room below. There was no link between the restaraunt and the hotel. Even though we had payed for a room with breakfast and dinner, each night they literally chased us seeking payment. Each night we had to chase our tour provider to get it sorted.

Me and my wife stayed at this hotel for one night during our excursion throughout Kyrgyzstan. The room was nice and clean. Breakfast was basic, but still good enough. Unfortunately, we realized that, surely due to poor maintenance, what could be a very comfortable hotel poses some challenges. For instance, the big screen TV was not working (due to a problem in the antenna connection) or, worse, the toilet flush was not working at all (this one I was able to fix after some time)... It's a pity, because with some maintenance this would definitely be a good choice in Naryn...

The management is completely deferent that other hotels in Kyrgyzstan. They try and do the best

Cyclists, be warned! As of August 2022, this hotel consists of multiple buildings, and unfortunately the newest building (Grand Khan Tengri) has anti-bike policies, no safe storage and extremely rude staff. We were told to leave our expensive travel bicycles ‘outside’, or to ‘go stay at another place’ if we didn’t like that. Indifference was their main behavior, which is the worst you can experience as a guest, and the reason for my 3-star review.

We ended up staying 2 separate nights in two of the older buildings (Khan Tengri), before and after our bikepacking trip. Bikes are not allowed in the buildings, but our bikes could be stored behind a big, locked door in a garage full of junk near the entrance.

The rooms (2 and 44) in the buildings we stayed (main old building with lobby, and slightly newer dark wooden building) are spacious and clean, with all the amenities needed—kettle, tea bags, hairdryer, soap and shampoo, fluffy towels, clothing closet, bedside lamp and ample wall sockets for charging electronics.

Wifi connection was very bad in the old main building and stable in the dark wooden building.

Breakfast is included in the price (we paid $33 a night, both times) and served in the restaurant on site. No buffet, instead you get a simple and typical Kyrgyz breakfast. The staff does understand ‘no meat’ if you ask them.

Lunch and dinner can be ordered á la carte in the same restaurant every day at whatever time, and the dishes are very tasty and affordable. I can recommend the lentil soup and aubergine in sweet/sour sauce.

My partner and I recommended this hotel in the video series of our At-Bashi Circuit bikepacking route before experiencing the outright nasty and disrespectful behavior of the staff at the Grand Khan Tengri, so unfortunately we have to adjust our recommendation to only the older complex. Whoever owns this hotel, they should really start taking cyclists seriously as at the end of the day, any guest should be a valued guest.
