We arrived as a cruising yacht. We were not their typical guest, yet they made great effort in welcoming us and being flexible to offer us help with laundry etc
We ate two meals from the buffet; a very mediocre affair. The dinner was on 'fish night' but was unimaginative at best, the highlight was the fresh salad selection. The next day we went ashore to have lunch and again ate from the buffet, again it was barely better than bland...
The island itself is very picturesque and is manicured with attention to detail. The sea life visible from the snorkeling pier is impressive, perhaps the highlight

2nd time here, absolutely loved this time more than the first. The improvements in just 4 years is amazing. Better sunbeds and parasols at the pool, better seating with pads at the bar, the food was beautiful, lots of live cooking, good variety. The staff were more interactive, very pleasant and would go out of their way to help you . Special mention to our waiter Nazeem who was so hard working, always smiling. Restaurant manager was lovely, and interacted with guests which was nice. Yes there are parts that could be better, but little things, like the rooms a little dated but were spotless. And cleaned every morning, and an additional knock on the door on an evening to see if we needed anything and check if all is good. Snorkelling… no reef, but we snorkelled everyday off the back pier (where the diving school is) and saw turtles and a 6ft nurse shark. On the evening around 9pm/10pm we went to the front pier and saw stingrays and some quite big sharks. So still had fun! They have a nice gesture for people who return, which is 4 course dinner, set out lovely and waited on. Would we come back for a third time?? Absolutely.

Just got back from the Maldives and I’m still mentally there 🌴✨ We stayed at this beautiful little resort that takes up the *entire* island — only about 60 bungalows in total — which makes it feel incredibly private and exclusive without being flashy or overdone. What I loved most is that it’s a local resort, not one of those big international brands that instantly push prices into another dimension. You get the paradise, just without paying for the name. It’s located in the utmost northern part of the Maldives, so getting there involves a domestic flight plus a speedboat ride. It sounds like a journey (and it is), but the moment you see the crystal-clear water and untouched beaches, you completely forget about it. The island truly makes up for every second of travel. Even though the resort was fully booked during our stay, it never felt crowded. We could spend hours at the beach without seeing almost anyone. It genuinely feels like your own private island. The staff really stands out — incredibly friendly, warm, and always trying to fulfill every wish or special request. The service feels personal rather than scripted, which adds a lot to the charm. Now, to keep it honest: compared to the big-name luxury resorts, there are definitely some details missing. There’s no room service, buggy service can be a bit slow at times, and the room furnishings are slightly on the outdated side rather than ultra-modern luxury. If you’re expecting polished, ultra-high-end, perfectly synchronized five-star precision, you might notice these things. But honestly? For us, that was part of the relaxed, unpretentious charm — and it’s also what keeps the pricing reasonable. Food-wise: Breakfast was very good — live egg station, fresh fruit station, croissants, juices, and plenty of options to start the day right. Lunch at the bar is easy and affordable — club sandwiches, light meals, beach classics. Perfect for a relaxed day in swimwear. Dinner is probably the only area with room for improvement. If you don’t book half board, the à la carte options are quite limited and basically similar to the lunch-style menu. However, if you don’t eat much in the evening or prefer something more intimate, I highly recommend the lobster menu served in a private cabana on the beach. It’s a bit more expensive than the buffet, but absolutely worth it when you compare the quality and the experience. Dining privately under the stars with the ocean in the background is just special. Activities are offered at reasonable prices, which is great. Diving, however, is on the expensive side (as it often is in the Maldives). If you have your own gear, definitely bring it — that makes it much more worthwhile. Overall, this resort is perfect if you’re looking for:
• A true paradise island feeling
• Space and privacy
• Genuinely kind staff
• More reasonable pricing than the big brands • And you don’t mind a few small imperfections It’s not ultra-polished luxury — it’s relaxed, natural, and authentic. And honestly, that’s exactly why we loved it. It’s a matter of time until we get back!

Everything was perfect. It‘s a beautiful island located in the middle in the nowhere, so its very quiet and there is no nosise. The staff is super friendly, specially Nazrul from the restaurant and Kamal from the bar were always there for you!
Super friendly atmosphere.
The whole resort and the rooms are very tidy and there are no moscitos because of the fumigation.
The food is very delicious and valuable!

This was our second time at Hondaafushi, after visiting two years ago, and unfortunately we were very disappointed by how much the resort has declined.

The general maintenance is clearly lacking: damaged door handles, broken or worn sunbeds and umbrellas, deteriorated fixtures, cracked walls — overall the property looks tired and neglected compared to our previous stay.

The buffet has also gone downhill significantly, with much less variety and lower quality than before.

To make matters worse, we were initially assigned a room in very poor condition. It was only changed after we complained several times. This is not good service — guests shouldn’t have to repeatedly protest just to receive what should already be standard.

The final low point was the return transfer. The resort only booked our domestic flight the day before our departure, by which time the more suitable flights were already fully booked. As a result, we had to leave the resort at 3:00 AM and then wait around 7 hours before our international flight to Italy, which departed at 1:00 PM. This was extremely exhausting and poorly managed.

Overall, while we had fond memories from our first visit, this time the experience fell far short of expectations. Sadly, we would not recommend Hondaafushi anymore unless major improvements are made in maintenance, food quality, and guest services.

This is our first time in the Maldives. We spent a long time choosing a place on Google Maps and ended up at Hondafushi. It turned out to be the best place in the Maldives. We would like to express our gratitude to the waiters and bartenders for their hospitality. We have never seen such a kind attitude.
The kitchen is 5 stars, and the bar is also 5 stars. Thank you to everyone. We hope to return to Hondafushi in the future.
- Service is 5 stars

We went to Hondaafushi Resort with my partner for Christmas 2025 and absolutely loved it. The experience was incredibly relaxing without any over-fuss, which made it even more enjoyable. The staff were wonderful, especially our designated waiter, Anu, who took such great care of us throughout our stay. She was genuinely kind and attentive, and made us feel very welcome. The beach on the island is simply pure and breathtaking. We returned home with our hearts full of beautiful memories and will cherish this experience forever.
