I have read some of the other reviews and am shocked. I have been here 8 times, as part of a conference every year - and have been delighted every time. The breakfast is great - choice of eggs, waffles, pancakes, bacon, sausages, fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereals, several types of bread, cold meats, salads - everything. Don't know what the other reviewers are complaining about, it's way better than most hotel breakfasts I eat (and I travel a lot for business). I had lunch and dinner here too - the roasted celeriac salad with beetroot (and beetroot ketchup, yum) would not be out of place in a michelin starred restaurant. Service has always been helpful and staff are always available at the desk. Rooms vary in size - the smaller ones are a bit cramped for two but the bigger rooms are majestic, especially with views of the dunes. It's always clean and cosy - more like visiting a friends house than a sterile business hotel. Great for walks to the beach or local restaurants, dog-friendly too. I will be back with my 3 dogs next year for summer. A superb hotel with excellent food and service.

This hotel is a top notch experience on the lovely island of Texel. The people who worked there went out of their way to help us with anything we needed, from reserving transport to booking tours. A special shout out to Jonas who was so kind and thoughtful! The entire place is beautifully designed and gives you a true feeling of relaxation and serenity. We had a room with sea view which was fantastic! Also located right in front of a bus stop, very convenient. I highly recommend to anyone and look forward to returning one day!! Thanks to the entire staff for your kindness and professionalism!

Nice spacious rooms, I like the furnishing and decorations, all in one bue/brown theme. Extensive breakfast with local products and only a short walk to the beach.

Ever been to a hotel where the web site totally oversells it? Less common is the opposite and that would be the Hotel Opduin. When I booked it, looking at the website I presumed a charming (and perhaps slightly run down) hotel nestling near the dunes. Perhaps a simple dining room, and a hotel with a few guests mid week in May. Which couldn’t be more wrong. Let’s get a couple of issues out of the way. From some angles the hotel appears to have been built using one of the local fortifications from the Atlantic Wall. Outside the drive way to the main door is pretty steep. That’s something the hotel should think about after I saw someone pushing a wheel chair up that slope. Handicapped access needs some attention. But inside the hotel is lovely. Modern, clean in its lines. My room, overlooking the forest full of light and well looked after. This really is a very nice place. The dining room is very pleasant as well and it would be a mistake not to make a reservation. The food is very good - not that cheap unless you take the daily special - but interesting enough and they do seem to make good use of local food stuffs. The wine list isn’t going to win any awards, but then most seem to plump for the local and excellent beer. Looking at the car registration plates in the car park Texel and the hotel are something of a secret confined to the Dutch and the Germans. If you do come from the ferry take the bus - but keep on the bus after you think that bus has reached it’s final destination. It’s a circular route and the stop you need is as after the stop on the destination board. Post 37 is what you need and it’s right outside the hotel. The bar is a very pleasant place and a good choice of drinks. Four types of Calvados and three Armagnacs. Such pleasure is rare these days. There is no water in the room, to me an oversight but a well stocked Nespresso machine. And you might need that machine because breakfast doesn’t start until 0800 and by 0805 it is rammed. The hotel might want to think about an earlier start. The hotel is well placed if you want to go walking or biking with trails adjacent to the hotel. The actual beach is probably further that you might think. There are sea view rooms but the water bit is some way away. The beach is lovely fine sand, you know the kind of sinking sand that strains your muscles after ten minutes walking. The staff are generally lovely from those on the front desk, to those in the restaurant. I only had one issue during my stay. On my last night’s dinner despite the restaurant being less crowed than on previous nights (I stayed 4 nights) food was slow coming out of the kitchen. Nearly 90 minutes after the start of my 1930 reservation i was still waiting for my main (the steak dish). I was rather unamused to see the Chef doing his ‘victory lap’ around the room given how many tables were still waiting for food. By all means go and talk to your guests but wait until the the kitchen has cleared any backlogs. The server did c

Rooms very small but lovely location. Experience ruined by Sven, their very rude waiter in the dining room. He was so unpleasant, we left and ate elsewhere. He obviously has some anger management issues and is definitely in the wrong job.

Kind staff, hotel goes the extra mile. Amazing breakfast and great facilities. Would recommend as a partial wheelchair user.

We just stayed in the hotel for a night, but we were very satisfied with the amenities, the room and the breakfast. It's located very close to the centre and next to the bus station.

Our experience at Hotel Opduin was an absolute disaster from the moment we arrived. Upon entering the breakfast room, no one greeted or assisted us, leaving us to wander in search of a free table. This first sign of disorganization and lack of professionalism immediately foreshadowed what we were about to encounter.

The food was of an unacceptable quality for a four-star hotel. The eggs were terribly cooked, an inedible mess. The bread and croissants looked like they were bought from a third-world market, so unappealing to see and eat. The little hot food available was literally disgusting, all overcooked, making the dishes dry and tasteless.

The fruit corner was a desolate sight: pieces of fruit that seemed days old, bruised, and lacking freshness. It's evident that the management has no regard for the quality of the products offered to their guests. During the entire breakfast, no waiter approached our table to see if we needed anything or to provide even the minimal level of service. The staff's attitude was indifferent and neglectful, more engaged in joking and laughing among themselves than doing their job.

Overall, the service was practically non-existent. The waiters seemed totally uninterested in providing a pleasant experience for the guests. The prices were exorbitant, completely unjustified compared to the quality offered. I cannot understand how such a hotel can be considered luxurious, given the total lack of attention to detail and poor service.

In summary, Hotel Opduin was the worst place I have ever stayed. Not only do I not recommend it to anyone, but I strongly advise everyone to avoid it at all costs. It is a tourist trap, where you pay a high price for a degraded and disappointing experience. The only redeeming quality is the natural beauty of the island of Texel, which has nothing to do with this terrible hotel. Save your money and look elsewhere for a place to stay, because here you will find nothing but disappointment and frustration.!

Me and my mother had a room facing the dunes and it was an absolutely amazing! The view was great and the room was extremely spacious. Our dog loved the room and also the closeness of the beach and the forest. When we had our breakfast, we were amazed by the amount of products they offered and the quality, it was for sure the best breakfast we had in any hotel in Europe. Definitely would recommend it to anyone!
