Design Hotel Modez in Arnhem

We stayed at Hotel Modez – Split Studio, specifically Studio 13A, and rate this stay 3 out of 5 stars.

The studio is nicely and cozily decorated and makes a good first impression upon arrival. The beds and the shower are of good quality, and free parking is a definite plus. Housekeeping is available upon request, which can be convenient for longer stays.

Unfortunately, there were several drawbacks that made our stay less comfortable. The temperature in the studio could not be adjusted, and it was quite cold both in the morning and in the afternoon. There was a temperature control in the hallway, but it could not be used without a code. The heaters inside the studio were cold. When we wanted to report this issue, we ran into another major problem: the hotel is not reachable after 6:00 PM. There is no staff present, and the emergency number turns out to be the same as the regular phone number. Even though it was New Year’s Day, we found this very strange and uncomfortable. What if something serious happens, or if you lose your key?

The kitchen equipment is very minimal. There is no oven and no microwave, and the frying pan was in such poor condition that we did not feel it was safe to use. In addition, the studio is not very pet-friendly. We traveled with our cat, and the staircase is very steep and open. The kitchen is also partially open at the bottom, which allowed our cat to get behind it. There were exposed electrical wires there, and it was difficult to get him out, creating a potentially dangerous situation.

We chose not to have housekeeping during our stay, but despite this, the hallway and staircases were very dirty, which is something that should be maintained regardless. Additionally, there was conditioner inside the shampoo dispenser, and the design clock in the studio did not work. These may seem like small details, but they are things that should simply be in order.

In short, the stay was decent but certainly not outstanding. We paid nearly €400 for two nights, which we did not feel was good value for money. The most concerning issue was the lack of contact options in the evening, which also applies on regular nights. There is clearly still a lot of room for improvement.

We are curious to see how, and if, the hotel will respond to this review.

This is a design hotel. If you like design: Bingo. If you like function: Sorry (!). Your partner is showering: sorry, bath is under water - can't go to the loo! Basin in the sleeping room - o.k., your partner has an early business meeting, you are awakened by bathroom noise (razor etc.). Here: function follows design, not the other way. Sorry.
In summary: fancy design, clean, but a lot of improvement possible when it comes to a normal business hotel standard comfort.
